Hakbal of the Surging Soul is a cool new Merfolk commander from the Lost Caverns of Ixalan precons. I think the explore trigger across all Merfolk from Hakbal makes them a pretty good control commander who can turn Merfolk into strong beaters and tools to help you find the right cards to lock down the board.
