EDHREC's new look!
Hello there, I'm Garrett Gardner, a.k.a. GGards. I'm an engineer and designer on the EDHREC dev team, and for the last year we have been hard at work on the full-site redesign you will be seeing today!

GGards in action!
Let's go on a Journey of DiscoveryJourney of Discovery of what's new, what hasn't changed, why, and what's next.
What’s new?
Cards

Check out the new flags, buttons and stats on the new card view
First up: Magic cards! Perhaps you are familiar.
Cards now display images alongside their relevant flags, and buttons, and stats.
Flags are small visual indicators for characteristics such as Fiery, New, Salty and Game Changer.
Buttons open the new card modal, add/remove from your clipboard, and do more cool stuff.
Finally, the stats below display the most-relevant stats for the card such as its Inclusion, Deck Count and Lift scores, all of which have a new distinct visual graphic treatment.
The biggest motivator for these changes was to give as much context as possible while never placing any elements in front of the card art, which as we all know is extremely awesome to look at.

Filters

The Gitrog MonsterThe Gitrog Monster commander page with active filters
The Filters sidebar houses a copy of these basic filters, as well as Advanced Filters. It's always only a click away, even on mobile!
Color Identity Filter on Card Pages

The Life from the LoamLife from the Loam card page filtered to just Temur results
The new Color Identity Filter can now filter down to decks with a with a specific color identity, displaying only results for that chosen identity. So if you're looking for which cards specifically pair well with Big Score among Boros decks, check out the new filter!
Gallery Control Bar

You wouldn't believe how long we spent iterating on this gallery control bar...
The Gallery Control bar has been carefully reorganized and enhanced so you can easily customize to your preferences while browsing card galleries.
A new Size control lets you shrink cards to a smaller size.
The View control still has the classics (Stats, Table, and Text) with the addition of the Images-only view.
Group By and Sort By have new options, and the Sort By dropdown now allows for ascending / descending.
The Card Filters button allows advanced customization for the card results on the page, and the new search bar is a quick shortcut to find specific cards as well.
Tabs

Commanders, Cards, Staples, Mana Rocks, Landbases and Combos all filtered to Rakdos for easy navigation
As part of our quest to make the site more easily navigable, many pages now have tabs to more easily organize related content.
The Commander page now has tabs for Card Recs, Charts, Combos, Similar Commanders, Average Deck, and Decks. We also cross-link many of the Top list pages by color identity, so Commanders, Cards, Staples, Mana Rocks, Landbases and Combos are all available while brewing.
Homepage

Get started with the new Browse section on the EDHREC homepage
The new homepage now includes more ways to kick off searching and browsing the site.
We hope new users can quickly grasp what EDHREC is all about from their first visit to this page, and experienced users will enjoy the new overall stats and neato trending graph.
Article Categories

Articles are now categorized by subject, find them on the homepage or the main navigation
EDHREC publishes tons of articles every day, and now they are better organized into seven categories: cEDH, Data, Deck Techs, Guides, Lists, News & Reviews and Opinions.
Tooltips

Oblivion CrownOblivion Crown is a pretty good card to play in The Gitrog MonsterThe Gitrog Monster decks, according to this tooltip explaining the Lift score
Hovering over or clicking a stat will open a tooltip where you can get more information about how the stat was calculated.
Mobile Improvements

Mobile devices can now display two cards side-by-side, and the clipboard is now a fly-in full screen menu
Across the board, the mobile EDHREC experience was more deliberately designed for the space available on your phone.
The Filters Sidebar, Nav and Clipboard menus are all reworked with mobile in mind. Inputs such as selects and typeaheads now open a more intuitive mobile modal.
The Card Gallery provides a card size button to toggle a smaller, 2-column view while you browse.
New Pages

Look at all those beautiful new pages, like the card pages for every color identity
Every one of the 32 unique color identities now has a Top Card page. Also new are the Vehicle commanders and top Sagas pages.
More!
Many pages have new filters available (with more to come). The clipboard is now vertical and lockable. Price link preferences for logged in users are more easily customizable. Honestly, there's a lot of new stuff, too much to list 'em all!
What hasn't changed?
Straight up: We have not removed any data or pages from EDHREC.
All the same data
The data is completely unchanged, with all the same ways to filter, customize, and browse as before.
All the same pages
No pages have been removed. Some may have been renamed or relocated to be more easily discoverable, but every single page is still here.
Why did we do this, anyway?
We have some solid reasons we wanted to make this change beyond "because it's neat," so let's start with those. (Although I do think it's neat, too.)
To make EDHREC more cohesive, flexible and intuitive
Over the years EDHREC has added tons of awesome new features, pages, sections, tools, controls, doohickeys and wing dings. And over time, all this different neat stuff has collided with itself and gotten a bit mish-mashed together or lost.
So we wanted to take a step back and dedicate the time to view EDHREC as a singular, cohesive experience with a new intentional, organized design system and identity. We want to make sure EDHREC remains streamlined and easy to use, but also be able to provide advanced controls and in depth data context for anyone looking to delve deeper.
The old layout and design was somewhat rigid and restrictive, while the redesign is built to be more fluid and dynamic to better support new ideas as we come up with them, without losing other things in the process. Our stronger organization is intended to highlight some of the often-missed (but cool!) parts of our site like Card pages, Staples and Mana Rocks pages.
Also, about half of you are browsing EDHREC on your phones, so we really focused on making the mobile experience more intuitive, smooth and easy, with access to all of the same controls as on desktop.
To add new, neat stuff faster
Much of the neat stuff in the What's New section was only possible due to the redesign and code overhaul.
While building all of this out, we made sure to keep further future-proofing in mind to allow us to iterate much more quickly on new ideas. And we have been brewing on a lot of pretty ding dang cool new ideas coming very soon, which we will be able to get out much faster thanks to the redesign.
To keep up with the times
Between design trends and advancements in tech and code and all that boring stuff, we don't want to get too old and out of dateget too old and out of date.
Life comes at you fast and Magic comes at you even fastereven faster so we gotta meet that speed, simple as.
What’s next?
First of all, tell us what you think. We will be actively listening to bug reports and feedback, and pushing updates as quickly as we can!
After that, we have plenty of new things in store to build (like, a lot a lot). So stay tuned for all that neat new stuff.
Lastly, we will be keeping the EDHREC community up to date with changes as we launch them with this new Changelog article series, written by us EDHREC devs. So, talk soon? Happy brewing, nerds.
GGards
Garrett Gardner, a.k.a. GGards, is a software engineer, UI/UX designer and member of the EDHREC dev team. In his spare time, Garrett likes streaming Magic Arena drafts on Twitch (after all, limited is the best Magic format). He was also the co-host of the Magic limited podcast Mystical Dispute which he very much misses doing with his retired co-host. His favorite commander is The Gitrog Monster, because Golgari is death, and Golgari is life.
