Avengers Assemble! | Art by Johan Grenier
Excelsior! Welcome, comic book fans, to Marvel Super Heroes preview season! On Tuesday, June 2nd, WeeklyMTG kicked off the amazing and/or incredible reveals for the second official Marvel Comics-based Magic set. And let's be real for a second; we know how strongly many comic book fans abhor spoilers. That's a lot of hatred, let me just tell you! But that being said, the newest upcoming set looks at the comic books through a very different medium, and here, spoilers are welcomed. So, without further ado, let's get on with the reveals!
Marvel Super Heroes Main Set Previews
Below are several new cards from the main set of Marvel Super Heroes. There are a couple of new mechanics, including the teamwork keyword, the Plan enchantment subtype, and the Power-up ability word. Let's let the new cards speak for themselves here, because one of the rules of comics is to show, not tell:
MSH Showcase Treatments
As with most comics these days, what is a comic book without a variant or three? Here are some of the showcase cards you could find within booster packs of Marvel Super Heroes:
Source Material Cards
Naturally, this set also has a bunch of cards within the Source Material subset that we've seen over the last few Universes Beyond releases. This set specifically seems to want to examine the art of the older Marvel comics from back in the day to give us the art for these reprints. As such, here are a few of the Source Material cards from Marvel Super Heroes:
Marvel Super Heroes Commander Cards
Finally, here are some of the cards you'll find in the Commander precons for this new set. The four decks are themed after the Fantastic Four, Black Panther, the Avengers, and a slew of Marvel villains, respectively. Let's take a good look at these!
Conclusion
Well, there you have it! These were the cards previewed on WeeklyMTG for Marvel Super Heroes on Tuesday, June 2nd. The set looks surprisingly deeper than some may have initially considered. In my opinion, it looks simply super (okay, it was low-hanging fruit to say "super" here. So sue me!).
With that, let's open the floor to you, dear readers! What do you think of the new cards revealed so far? Will you be picking any of them up as singles? Alternatively, will you be buying any sealed MSH products? Or will you be skipping this set entirely? Sound off in the comments below!
