- Ixalan EDH Review — Blue
ArticlesIxalan is upon us, in all its colorful, dino-riding, neck-biting, treasure-hunting glory. It's a bright colorful set dominated by four distinctive tribes all chasing after an elusive lost city of gold. And given their toned-down presence it's possible that maybe, just maybe this world will be left in one piece when we move on in the spring […]
- Commander Showdown — Tishana vs Zegana
ArticlesPrime Speaker of Thunder Ixalan is just around the river bend, which means we must turn our attention from the tribes of Commander 2017 to the tribes of this dangerous new plane. We have a ton of new and exciting legendary creatures headed our way, but there's one in particular that stands out. Commander Showdown […]
- Low Market — Pi-rogues!
ArticlesAdmiral Beckett Brass art by Jason Rainville I Like the Cut of your Jib Getcher cutlass and hoist the mainsail: we're headed to the plane of Ixalan, a world of wonder and adventure and complex tribal mechanical themes. We had many options for this week's budget deck: a crew of pirates led by , […]
- Low Market — Mairsil's Charge Counter Combo
ArticlesMairsil, the Pretender art by Izzy. Madness Flashbacks In Magic lore, the Dominarian wizard Mairsil drove mad a powerful mage named Ith. - Commander Showdown — Taigam vs Taigam
ArticlesAlternate Timelines Here on Commander Showdown, we normally take a close look at two commanders whose abilities are very similar. Last week, for example, we went in-depth on The Ur-Dragon vs Scion of the Ur-Dragon. Long before that, we examined Roon vs Brago in a Blink-Bros Brawl. This week, I hope you'll indulge me as we try something […]
- Burning Inquiry — Taking a Break from Magic
ArticlesWe've all been there. At some point this game which once inspired such lustful joy becomes a frustrating grind. Somewhere between the reserved list and the banned list, netdecking and token promos, boundless infinite combos and constricting real-life circumstances; it is here that players must reconsider the spaces for Magic: The Gathering in their lives. […]
- Partner Focus — Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix
Articlesand I have a special personal relationship, in that I was honored to be literally the first person to sing Kydele's praises to the world. Since the left the stage, the Big K needs a new multi-armed wizard to represent his interests in the mortal world. {Tap}: Add {C} to your mana pool for each card you've […]
- EDH Political Science — Tasigur, Steel-Driving Man
ArticlesThe steam engine broke society. It brought the world into the modern era. Industrialization, creating every modern amenity, would not have been possible without it. After the initial design by James Watt there were countless improvements, but there have been no developments with as large of an impact on the world since. When the previews […]
