<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle" href="#" target="_blank">Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> isn't the first commander to give spells demonstrate, but <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Twelfth Doctor" href="#" target="_blank">The Twelfth Doctor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> made it pretty complicated and he was in different colors, so we've got a lot of new ground to explore here. With Elda, our opponents can (be forced to) copy any spell we play, so we get to interact with some cards in ways they've never experienced before. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lucy MacLean, Positively Armed" href="#" target="_blank">Lucy MacLean, Positively Armed</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> floods the board, Slivers get massive, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Silverquill Lecturer" href="#" target="_blank">Silverquill Lecturer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> will turn the game table into a classroom. There are so many cards that become extremely overpowered or just strange with Elda, and I'm determined to find all of them. Let's check 'em out!</p>

<h2>The Jankiest Way to Use Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</h2>
<p>Elda's a card that seems super unusual at first, but after staring at her for a while, she closely resembles a donate commander, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Zedruu the Greathearted" href="#" target="_blank">Zedruu the Greathearted</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. The only difference is that we have to keep a copy of the cards we give away. Still, players are building her in a similar manner, trying to negate the downside of demonstrate by playing symmetrical cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Heartwood Storyteller" href="#" target="_blank">Heartwood Storyteller</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, or cards that only benefit Elda, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Exalted Sunborn" href="#" target="_blank">Exalted Sunborn</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>But while those picks are clever, I personally think the donate theme is a lot more fun when we're just giving away massive threats. We get two copies anyway, so why should we worry about our opponent's one? Let that <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gigantosaurus" href="#" target="_blank">Gigantosaurus</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> run wild! Embrace the chaos, because if Elda's flavor text is any indication, she would encourage it.</p>

<h2>The Most Evil Way to Use Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</h2>
<p>Oh hoh, there are a lot of evil things we can do with Elda, enough that I'm gonna have to go down a list. Let's just start by demonstrating some truly terrible spells. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Grid Monitor" href="#" target="_blank">Grid Monitor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, for instance, will simply lock us and one opponent out of casting creature spells. That's terrible, but not evil so much as it is masochistic.</p>
<p>So let's try casting some spells that only affect our opponents. I think <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Akroan Horse" href="#" target="_blank">Akroan Horse</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is an awesome one, giving us and our opponent the option to team up to totally screw a third player by giving them three copies of the card. It's more likely that we'll get one copy of the Horse and give our opponents two, but if someone's enough of an archenemy, they could get ganged up on.</p>

<p>But it's even more evil to give our opponents resources that are amazing for us, but are completely useless, or even harmful for them. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Krosan Cloudscraper" href="#" target="_blank">Krosan Cloudscraper</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a glorious card to demonstrate, a 13/13 that our opponents can almost touch until they have to sacrifice it at their upkeep. It's a terrible card, but it's so cruel to our opponents.</p>

<p>However, I don't think any of those are nearly as evil as the card that Elda combos with.</p>
<h2>The Best Combo with Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</h2>
<p>Usually when I say combo, I mean a group of cards that will go infinite together, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Peregrine Drake" href="#" target="_blank">Peregrine Drake</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Deadeye Navigator" href="#" target="_blank">Deadeye Navigator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Infinite ETB, infinite turns, or even infinite damage. But sometimes a combo is just a couple of cards that instantly kill a player, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle" href="#" target="_blank">Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Leveler" href="#" target="_blank">Leveler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Yup, Elda can just force players to cast a spell that kills them. It's totally gonna end us too, but if there are only two players left, it'll deck our opponent first. Shabam!</p>

<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Leveler" href="#" target="_blank">Leveler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> has to be one of the strangest cards in <em>Magic</em>. A five-mana 10/10 that kills whoever plays it. Usually it's only playable if we can counter the ETB, maybe using something like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hushbringer" href="#" target="_blank">Hushbringer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, but in this case we simply don't care about the downside. One way or another, casting <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Leveler" href="#" target="_blank">Leveler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is going to end our game. And if we have a really terrible grudge against a player, we can just take both of us out of the game and leave the other two to duke it out.</p>
<h2>The Most Competitive Way to Use Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</h2>
<p>Players figured out pretty darn fast that Slivers are nuts with Elda. The earliest Slivers were all symmetrical, making a Sliver mirror match quite the puzzle. But Elda can use that symmetry to give us a crazy boost. If we demonstrate a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Might Sliver" href="#" target="_blank">Might Sliver</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, every Sliver gets +6/+6. Our opponents get that bonus too, but we have 200% their combined number of Slivers, so we get a more than significant advantage. Slivers already snowball like crazy, and tripling their bonuses is wild.</p>

<p>Then, we can combine that with Elda's second most powerful interaction, populate. It's a mechanic that hasn't been printed too often because of its niche use cases: copying existing creature tokens. The best thing that's usually populated is that 6/6 <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Smaug" href="#" target="_blank">Smaug</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> Token, but with Elda, we can duplicate literally anything. You thought three <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Might Sliver" href="#" target="_blank">Might Sliver</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>s were strong? How about six? Since populate is usually seen as an underwhelming mechanic, the cards are pretty awesome too. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Druid&#039;s Deliverance" href="#" target="_blank">Druid&#039;s Deliverance</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is an excellent Fog, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sundering Growth" href="#" target="_blank">Sundering Growth</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Naturalize" href="#" target="_blank">Naturalize</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> with a huge upside, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rootborn Defenses" href="#" target="_blank">Rootborn Defenses</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> saves our creatures while making one more. Elda has a lot of options to make a very menacing deck.</p>

<h2>The Worst Deck for Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle</h2>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Marisi, Breaker of the Coil" href="#" target="_blank">Marisi, Breaker of the Coil</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a very intimidating commander, goading every creature an opponent controls when we deal combat damage to them. All we have to do is sneak around our enemies' blockers, and there's one perfect mechanic for that: shadow. Green, white and red don't really have much in the way of unblockable creatures, but Marisi doesn't have to settle too hard because creatures with shadow might as well be. As long as our opponents aren't running the exact same strategy as us, we're totally fine. Unless, of course, we choose to demonstrate a creature with shadow, giving our opponents the one thing that could save them from being goaded. In this deck, Elda doesn't just give our opponents a free creature; she makes our entire board useless when she does. One shadow creature on our opponents' side is worth way more than an extra one for us. Surely this is the worst deck for Elda.</p>

I know that there are a bunch of cards out there that will interact in crazy ways with her, but they're buried super far because they're trash in any other deck. Elda, Conjurer of Spectacle: Five Ways to Build

<p>Welcome back to <em>60 to 100</em>, a series where I convert beloved 60-card decks to Commander. This time around, I'm going to tackle one of my favorite constructed decks from the last couple years: Izzet (<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-u" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>) Creativity.</p>
<p>Reid Duke took down Pro Tour <em>Phyrexia</em> with this deck in 2023, and in the process played one of the most suspenseful matches of <em>Magic: The Gathering</em> ever caught on camera. As usual, I'm going to break down the original deck, go over some of the challenges porting it to Commander presents, and then show off the final product.</p>

<p>Izzet Creativity is a combo deck centered around <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Indomitable Creativity" href="#" target="_blank">Indomitable Creativity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. The combo is pretty simple. The deck is looking to make two artifact or creature tokens, blow them up with Indomitable Creativity, and bring <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Xenagos, God of Revels" href="#" target="_blank">Xenagos, God of Revels</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Worldspine Wurm" href="#" target="_blank">Worldspine Wurm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> into play. Xenagos doubles Worldspine Wurm's power and toughness, gives it haste, and then swings at the opponent for 30 damage with trample. The rest of the deck is card draw and interaction to find and protect the combo. Reid's deck also had two copies of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hullbreaker Horror" href="#" target="_blank">Hullbreaker Horror</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in the sideboard as a backup control plan against decks where the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Worldspine Wurm" href="#" target="_blank">Worldspine Wurm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> plan wasn't as viable.</p>
<h2>The Challenges</h2>
<p>The most obvious issue with the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Worldspine Wurm" href="#" target="_blank">Worldspine Wurm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> combo in Commander is that hitting one player for 30 damage doesn't even kill them, much less defeat three opponents. This puts me at a crossroads between stealing the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hullbreaker Horror" href="#" target="_blank">Hullbreaker Horror</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> plan from the deck's sideboard and leaning into the control side of the deck or finding a different two creatures that win the game together.</p>
<p>Next, I'm going to have to tackle the singleton issue by finding comparable cards to Indomitable Creativity or densely packing the deck with tutors that can find it. I can't include creatures or artifacts that aren't a part of the combo, so gone is the option of my beloved <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Drift of Phantasms" href="#" target="_blank">Drift of Phantasms</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for that purpose.</p>
<p>Lastly, this deck will be unable to play the suite of artifact-based ramp that is used in nearly every Commander deck. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sol Ring" href="#" target="_blank">Sol Ring</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a powerful <em>Magic</em> card, but I still wouldn't want to find it with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Indomitable Creativity" href="#" target="_blank">Indomitable Creativity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>!</p>
<h2>The Commander(s)</h2>

<p>This deck is perfectly positioned to take advantage of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh" href="#" target="_blank">Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Here, much like in cEDH, he serves as a zero-mana creature that turns on free interaction, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Deflecting Swat" href="#" target="_blank">Deflecting Swat</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Fierce Guardianship" href="#" target="_blank">Fierce Guardianship</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and he's a wonderful target to destroy with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Indomitable Creativity" href="#" target="_blank">Indomitable Creativity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Meanwhile, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Thrasios, Triton Hero" href="#" target="_blank">Thrasios, Triton Hero</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here to donate his colors and potentially draw a couple cards every now and then. Thrasios is another totally reasonable target for Indomitable Creativity at his mana cost.</p>
<h2>Key Cards for Temur Creativity</h2>

<p>Thankfully, there are a handful of spells that can do a reasonable <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Indomitable Creativity" href="#" target="_blank">Indomitable Creativity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> impression. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Synthetic Destiny" href="#" target="_blank">Synthetic Destiny</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Divergent Transformations" href="#" target="_blank">Divergent Transformations</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> both exile creatures and replace them with the same number of creatures from the deck. Divergent Transformations is even cheaper to cast than Creativity, assuming there are at least three opponents. This, alongside a frankly bizarre package of tutors that goes deeper into the well of options the Temur(<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-u" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-g" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>) colors have to offer, will make it pretty simple to find one of these spells necessary to execute the combo. I'm going to save just what those two creatures are for the win conditions section!</p>

<p>There are 18 cards in this deck that produce tokens, plus a copy of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mutavault" href="#" target="_blank">Mutavault</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. That number, combined with the two commanders, should make getting the two creatures or artifacts necessary to combo off with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Indomitable Creativity" href="#" target="_blank">Indomitable Creativity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> into play very achievable. An important note that 60-card Indomitable Creativity players are sure to have learned the hard way is that an opponent can respond by destroying one of Indomitable Creativity's targets and effectively stop the combo. A simple way to play around that is to target more creatures and artifacts than are necessary. This trick will be easy to pull off after generating four tokens with a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pest Infestation" href="#" target="_blank">Pest Infestation</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>!</p>

<p>The last squeaky wheel this deck can encounter is winding up stuck with the creatures that you're trying to put into play with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Indomitable Creativity" href="#" target="_blank">Indomitable Creativity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in the hand, so I've included a few ways to fix that! <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Brainstorm" href="#" target="_blank">Brainstorm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a classic fix for this problem, although the creatures will inevitably be drawn again unless the library gets shuffled afterwards. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Valakut Awakening" href="#" target="_blank">Valakut Awakening</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="See Beyond" href="#" target="_blank">See Beyond</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Volcanic Spite" href="#" target="_blank">Volcanic Spite</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> all put cards from the hand on the bottom of the library, ensuring that they won't be seen again until the time is right.</p>
<h2>How Does This Indomitable Creativity Deck Win the Game?</h2>

<p>Admittedly, I'm a little sad that this is the way I had to go here. Unfortunately, there just aren't that many viable combinations of creatures that end the game on the spot. I spent a lot of time digging through <a href="https://commanderspellbook.com/">Commander Spellbook</a>, and concluded that <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Thassa&#039;s Oracle" href="#" target="_blank">Thassa&#039;s Oracle</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Leveler" href="#" target="_blank">Leveler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> were the best choice. This one is pretty simple: Leveler and Thassa's Oracle come into play simultaneously, and then the triggers get stacked such that Leveler's enters trigger resolves first. In a pinch, these two can also be reasonable cast from the hand in the unfortunate scenario where they both show up there.</p>

Turn the Earth can shuffle <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Thassa&#039;s Oracle" href="#" target="_blank">Thassa&#039;s Oracle</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Leveler" href="#" target="_blank">Leveler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> back into the library if things go horribly awry. Then, there is a lot of recovery and redundancy for the spells that initiate the combo with cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mystic Sanctuary" href="#" target="_blank">Mystic Sanctuary</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Bala-Ged Recovery" href="#" target="_blank">Bala-Ged Recovery</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>

<h2>Conclusion</h2>
<p>I'm happy with how this deck turned out. After going back and watching Reid's matches from Pro Tour <em>Phyrexia</em>, I knew I'd have to find a way to play with Indomitable Creativity in Commander. The one thing that I really wish I could've done was combine the two modes of Reid's deck into one. Unfortunately, without having access to a sideboard, the presence of any other creatures in the deck totally disrupts the main plan.</p>
<p>This deck fits into Bracket 4 (Optimized) quite comfortably, and I'd avoid playing it in either Bracket 3 (Upgraded) or Bracket 5 (cEDH). It won't be able to compete in cEDH, and it will definitely create anticlimactic games at Bracket 3 tables. Players that are as enthralled by this sort of all-in combo deck will have a blast with it, as long as it's being played at the right table. I'd likely expect some groans once Thassa's Oracle's enters trigger hits the stack, though.</p>
