How does this combo work?

2 | Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Lesser Masticore, adding one mana of any color. |
3 | Lesser Masticore dies, triggering its persist ability, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with no -1/-1 counters due to Zameck Guildmage. |
4 | Repeat from step 2. |
