EDHREC's Snail Mascot Is Officially Named...

EDHREC lightning snail mascot commission | Art by Emma Gudrian

Buy the lightning snail playmat at our official merch store here!

You voted, and the verdict is in! EDHREC now has an update on the name for our electric snail mascot! With a resounding more than half of you voting for this name, our mascot, created by the talented Emma Gudrian, is officially named...

Eddie!

EDHREC Snail

Just look at Eddie, majestic as ever and beyond ecstatic to have a name all their* own! What a cute snail, all ready to take on the world and a pod of three other Commander-playing snails. Of course, what those snails may not know is that Eddie has the sheer might and knowledge of EDHREC on their side!

(*Author's note: Because terrestrial gastropods are often scientifically classified as hermaphroditic, Eddie may be referred to by any-gender pronouns.)

Of course, to honor the occasion, we've whipped up two new T-shirt designs to allow for anyone to rep their Eddie appreciation:

ICYMI: We Interviewed Eddie's Artist, Emma Gudrian

In case you missed out on the poll and the interview that preceded it, we also got a chance to interview Emma Gudrian, the driving force behind Eddie's adorable visual look in the image above. You can find that interview here!

Some of the talking points of this interview include the following tidbits of information:

  • Emma's background as an artist
  • How EDHREC got Emma involved
  • The choice to have Eddie be a snail in the first place
  • The idea of hidden Easter eggs in Eddie's art
  • and a great deal more!

We owe so many thanks to Emma for supporting us through this fantastic artwork of Eddie, and look forward to seeing what else she has cooking in the future!

Eddie Playmats and Merch Now Available on the EDHREC Webstore!

And please, don't forget that Eddie is featured on a lovely playmat! This playmat is made from a 100% polyester material on the front, with a backing that is 100% natural rubber. It's great for use as a playmat, as advertised. However, you can also use it as a mousepad, since it supports the use of optical and laser mice!

You can find said playmat, as well as the two new T-shirt designs, on our webstore. Again, you can find all of these wonderful items in our webstore alongside quite a few other fantastic pieces of merch and apparel.

Conclusion

Remember, dear readers, that Eddie's genesis was truly a labor of love and devotion from a stunningly talented artist, the diligent efforts of the staff here at EDHREC, and, of course, the final decision voted on by you! So, with all credit where it's due, thank you for voting.

Also, on a personal note, this author thanks you for reading my work. It means a ton every time I get a comment or link back to an article I've gotten the chance to write for EDHREC. It brings a big ol' smile to my soul. I'll continue to bring you the best I've got!

And now, let's open the floor to you, dear readers! Are you happy for Eddie's name to be thus? Did you vote for their official name, or did you vote for a different name? Additionally, are you excited for the new merch coming to our webstore? Sound off in the comments below!
