This past weekend during Gen Con, Wizards of the Coast revealed the contents of Mystery Booster Commander Edition, a new Mystery Booster product only obtainable during MagicCon events (and in Festival in a Box products to come). This reveal showcased a total of 60 new Commander-legal legendary cards, all usable as commanders. Let's look at all of these awesome cards!
Mystery Booster Commander Edition New White Cards
There are (at least!) two important things to note with these new reveals. One is that there is an absolute glut of new planeswalker commanders. This will surely make Superfriends decks very happy. The second thing is that there are so many deep cuts in the lore among these cards that the diehard lore fans (or, as they prefer, "Vorthoses") are already going mad over this release. But in the meantime, let's move on with blue!
New Blue Cards
There are eight cards in this subset from the release that have the "rulebreaker" mechanic. Tolabow, Loch Rascal was revealed early on, and there was some confusion about how it actually works. So, Wizards of the Coast has provided functional errata to the card to allow one additional color altogether, and the card's Oracle text references color identity rather than color. New Black Cards
There was for a long time an issue with getting Brandon Sanderson's Magic novel, Children of the Nameless, out to readers. I am unsure if that still stands, but Miss HighwaterMiss Highwater is a character from that novel, which bodes well for the book itself, because it's an excellent read.
New Red Cards
Yes, they finally printed The Unluckiest PlaneswalkerThe Unluckiest Planeswalker! For all those who enjoy Lynde, Cheerful TormentorLynde, Cheerful Tormentor and her antics, this is the guy who's on all those Curse cards!
New Green Cards
I'm not entirely certain why white, blue, and green got so many fewer cards than red or black when it comes to new monocolor cards, but as a Rakdos fan, I'm not complaining. On to the rest of 'em!
New Multicolor Cards
Regarding two cards in above, Sifa GrentSifa Grent was, like Miss HighwaterMiss Highwater, a card that was in some degree of dispute. IDW Comics had the rights to Sifa, just like they had the rights to Dack FaydenDack Fayden. Things must have changed!
The other card in question, Tsagan, Raider Warlord, is from the Alchemy format on Magic: The Gathering Arena! There is hope, people!
And, there is one more card in this subset: a colorless artifact creature.
