Printing Plate Pulled in a Secret Lair; Is This Something New?

A content creator on TikTok opened a Return to Mystical Archive drop from the recent Secret Lair Superdrop, and found a printing plate! This story is developing, and we do not have any confirmation from Wizards of the Coast about the nature of this seemingly chase pull. However, we will do our best to discuss what this could mean for collectors and for Secret Lairs to come.

Secret Lair Offers Creator a Chance for GloryChance for Glory

In the above TikTok video, a member of @goodtimesociety opens a copy of the Return to Mystical Archive drop, part of the recent, ongoing "Back to School" Superdrop. Many Magic players have scrutinized this drop since its reveal. They have largely lambasted it for its lackluster cards and questionably low-effort art.

In any event, the creator immediately notices that they received a seemingly rare printing plate from the Secret Lair drop they opened. This printing plate has the black ink from the card Chance for GloryChance for Glory from the Omens of Chaos drop of the same series.

In the video, you can see that Wizards has wrapped the plate in a different cellophane than the actual cards. Behind the cellophane-sealed plate, there is a certificate of authenticity included as well. The certificate explains precisely what this collectible item is.

Can Players Open a Printing Plate?

Currently, there are no confirmed cases where players have randomly pulled a printing plate from their Secret Lair. Furthermore, this TikTok was potentially staged, with a creator opening a drop that Wizards of the Coast sent them. Therefore, we cannot yet say for sure whether players will ever even get to open this sort of novel item. However, as with other events in this vein, we remain diligent. We will update you if more pop up, especially in a more organic capacity.

Conclusion

I'd like to open the floor to you, dear readers! Have you opened a Secret Lair drop before? If you have, have you received any chase pulls from said drops? And, if you're reading this having already opened a Back to School Superdrop Lair, did you manage to pull a printing plate? Sound off in the comments below!
