After two Universes Beyond sets, it's time once again for a new in-Multiverse set to release! Reality Fracture preview season is upon us, and as always, we have some information about the new cards and mechanics you'll see therein! Time is a-ticking, and so let's not waste any more of it. Let's get right into it!

Reality Fracture's New Mechanic: Empower

During War of the Spark back in 2019 (which feels like ages ago, huh?), Wizards of the Coast introduced a new mechanic known as amass. This mechanic came with a bit of odd baggage because it originally only made Zombie Army tokens, but Wizards has since amended it to be an Army of whatever type it says to amass. Why do I bring this mechanic up? Empower is exactly like amass, except you make a planeswalker token instead of an Army creature.

And, as one might expect, in the case of the relevant cards in Reality Fracture, we are empowering Jace.

So, there will be a large number of cards that empower Jace in this set. So far, they're spread among blue cards for the most part, but with splashes of other color identities here and there, such as white or green. There's even at least one land in the mix. Behold!

Echoverse Legends

Furthermore, the set has an interesting innovation that Wizards of the Coast hadn't previously implemented in Standard-legal sets. Two of the cards in each play booster pack are seeded to be the canon Multiverse version and its Echoverse counterpart. Here are a few examples of this, as previewed in the debut stream!

As far as Karns go, I'm utterly terrified by how debilitating Karn, Argent Defender will be against many decks in the future. But these other cards are pretty cool, too!

Prepared Spells

As with Secrets of Strixhaven before it, Reality Fracture has even more prepared spells. However, these are from the militant schools of Hexhaven Academy. Let's see what some of these cadets are up to!

I wouldn't want to be on that Battlemage's bad side, but in turn, he probably shouldn't be on the bad side of his school's founders, the Elder Sphinxes of Hexhaven.

Elder Sphinxes

As a foil to the Elder Dragon founders of Strixhaven University, the Elder Sphinxes (Sphinges? I can never get that right!) are the founders of Hexhaven Academy. And, as you'd probably expect, they're about as formidable and definitely nothing to scoff at:

Yikes, a Lotus token?! That's certainly got to be one of the most powerful abilities in the game, by that metric. Well, let's take a look at that Lotus token, while we're at it:

That's... Something. The face really makes it, I think!

Other Previewed Cards

Here are some other cards from the preview stream, for your perusal!

Loyal Tutor has caught my eye. It's a more niche effect than, say, Enlightened TutorEnlightened Tutor, but I would anticipate it to be designated as a Game Changer ahead of Reality Fracture's release.
