Reality Fracture Reveals From MagicCon Amsterdam Panel

Face Yourself | Art by Ekaterina Burmak

On Friday, July 17th, the good folks of Wizards of the Coast revealed a whole slew of new cards from Reality Fracture, the next in-universe Magic: The Gathering expansion set, at MagicCon Amsterdam. They also revealed a bunch of other information about what we are to expect from 2027's in-universe sets. (For more information on that news, you can visit the other article we released on MagicCon Amsterdam alongside this one!)

But for now, let's focus on Reality Fracture. The Echoverse is a whole alternative Multiverse of Jace BelerenJace Beleren's design. It lacks some degree of development and therefore remains incomplete. The quick fix for this seems to be the complete decimation and dissolution of the Multiverse we currently know and love. In the set, we will see faces both familiar and unfamiliar, with famous legendary creatures taking on completely new roles as they populate the strange, twisted Echoverse. Let's dive in!

The Lorwyn Five of Reality Fracture

This set marks the first appearance of all five members of the infamous "Lorwyn Five" contingent of Planeswalkers together since their card type's debut in, well, Lorwyn. As a matter of fact, they haven't been together in a plotline at all, as they were altogether absent from the storyline of the set the planeswalker card type originated in. And, obviously, a lot has changed since then; for one small but impactful example, Liliana VessLiliana Vess lost her Planeswalker spark. But enough about the story for the moment; here are the cards representing the whole of the Lorwyn Five and their Echoverse counterparts!

Hexhaven and its Colleges

Unlike in the "what-if?" set of Planar Chaos from decades ago, Reality Fracture had to keep some semblance of an anchored aesthetic about it. As such, Hexhaven is the main focus of the set's possibilities beyond the overarching storyline behind it. In Hexhaven, there are five colleges with allied colors, each mirroring one of the enemy-color colleges of Strixhaven University:

Other Echoverse References in Reality Fracture

Additionally, we will get some cards that are in reference to the main Multiverse at large in this set. For instance, we have a parallel version of Tinybones, known as Titanbones. He's green, and while he's still a Skeleton like his main-canon progenitor, he seems to be more giving than the monoblakc thief we have come to know and love.

Furthermore, we have an alternate version of Dark ConfidantDark Confidant, known as Enlightened Confidant, as well as a mono-red take on Craterhoof BehemothCraterhoof Behemoth, called Craterclaw Colossus, that focuses on a high artifact count. These cards will be peppered in the set alongside all of the Hexhaven cards, albeit not as focal as that main setting.

Face Reality

Reality Fracture is shaping up to be one of the coolest sets of 2026. We don't know if it will stack up to Secrets of Strixhaven or even Lorwyn Eclipsed, but, by gum, it's gonna be big.

And now, let's hear what you have to say about these cards, dear readers! Are you excited for this new upcoming set? Additionally, without delving too deeply into the political, would you prefer there to be an Echoverse version of Earth? What would you want to see there? Sound off in the comments below!
