A new set is hitting store shelves, and you know what that means: it's time for me to jump into its bulk in order to tell you about the best commons and uncommons that are hidden in those packs. The story of Reality Fracture isn't the only great thing about this release; it's also filled with great new designs that'll help support your favorite commander decks.

My name is Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks, and on this edition of Bulk Up, we're digging into Jace's warped Echoverse in order to find the best cards for your 99s. So, join me as I highlight over forty new spells (and two reprints) that you shouldn't let collect dust once you crack open those booster packs!

WHITE

Yoshimaru, Beloved CompanionYoshimaru, Beloved Companion

Yoshimaru, Beloved Companion

Building up +1/+1 counters is one of the most popular deckbuilding strategies in the format, which is why Yoshimaru, Beloved CompanionYoshimaru, Beloved Companion is sure to find plenty of homes. Even though it only adds one additional counter, that makes a huge difference for the lists looking to grow their entire team turn after turn.

(See Sophia, Dogged DetectiveSophia, Dogged Detective as a possible commander pairing.)

Koth of the HomesteadKoth of the Homestead

Koth of the Homestead

Decks that are centered around gaining life are another huge part of Commander, typically causing a domino effect of triggers whenever you increase your life total. Koth of the HomesteadKoth of the Homestead offering up one life whenever a land enters is great for ensuring that your engine is running smoothly, as you simply perform basic game actions.

(See Lathiel, the Bounteous DawnLathiel, the Bounteous Dawn as a possible commander pairing.)

Generous RevivalGenerous Revival

Generous Revival

Recursion spells like Generous RevivalGenerous Revival are always good to have on hand, since they bring back a key piece, and in this case, also add a counter to the creature you return to play. Plus, it has flashback, which is helpful for the later turns in a game, when bringing back a value creature could be the thing that pulls you toward a win.

(See Terra, Herald of HopeTerra, Herald of Hope as a possible commander pairing.)

Prophesied EndProphesied End

Prophesied End

While Prophesied EndProphesied End might not be the best option for creature removal, it's still a solid rate for this type of effect. If you're like me, you're constantly building new decks, and sometimes having efficient interaction pieces like this on hand can help you fill out your 99s. Plus, there are a few corner cases for this card that make it a good inclusion for the right deck (like targeting your own indestructible creature, as you'll see below).

(See The Sentry, Golden GuardianThe Sentry, Golden Guardian as a possible commander pairing.)

Honorable Mentions

Tomik, Orzhov Lawmage
Ghalta the Immovable
Danitha, Sword of Hope

Tomik, Orzhov LawmageTomik, Orzhov Lawmage: Here's a great two drop for a deck with a lot of planeswalkers to get down in the early game.
Ghalta the ImmovableGhalta the Immovable: This Dinosaur could just be a staple level card for the toughness-matters archetype.
Danitha, Sword of HopeDanitha, Sword of Hope: Solid card advantage piece for decks centered around Equipment.

BLUE

Sphinx's ApproachSphinx's Approach

Sphinx's Approach

Well, we just got another uncommon that lit the community on fire, all thanks to the text "a deck can have any number of cards named Sphinx's ApproachSphinx's Approach." This time around, we got a very useful three-mana draw two, that helps you pull more cards into your hand, in order to find enough copies of this spell, so that you can tutor up the best Sphinx in your deck right into play.

(See The Ur-SphinxThe Ur-Sphinx as a possible commander pairing.)

Geist of Saint ThaliaGeist of Saint Thalia

Geist of Saint Thalia

Next up, we have one of my favorite creatures on this entire list, Geist of Saint ThaliaGeist of Saint Thalia. Sure, there are a lot of cards that offer up similar cost reductions, but I love that this legend only costs two, and has flying. All of those qualities combine together to make this a very good option for a wide range of different deck types.

(See Kykar, Wind's FuryKykar, Wind's Fury as a possible commander pairing.)

Arni, Humble ScribeArni, Humble Scribe

Arni, Humble Scribe

Speaking of having good range, Arni, Humble ScribeArni, Humble Scribe fits really well in lists that are looking for tapping and untapping shenanigans as well as self-discard decks. The card selection that Arni offers helps you cycle through your 99, filling up your graveyard, while possibly putting the spells you want the most into your hand.

(See Captain Howler, Sea ScourgeCaptain Howler, Sea Scourge as a possible commander pairing.)

Tetsuko Umezawa, FugitiveTetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive

Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive

Evasion is incredibly important for decks that are looking to close out games through combat damage. Tetsuko Umezawa, FugitiveTetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive is a reprint that helps with that, since it assists your smaller creature with swinging freely when you move to attack. If you have a list that's filled with ways to make 1/1 tokens, consider letting this legend join your ranks.

(See Xyris, the Writhing StormXyris, the Writhing Storm as a possible commander pairing.)

Honorable Mentions

Proft, Consulting Detective
Plan for All Outcomes
Unsummon

Proft, Consulting DetectiveProft, Consulting Detective: A great value piece for any list that consistently scries/surveils.
Plan for All OutcomesPlan for All Outcomes: Good bounce removal for a deck that likes to cast noncreature spells, plus it builds up a Jace token on your board.
UnsummonUnsummon: Nice reprint that can still trip up your opponents by bouncing a key creature.

BLACK

Multiply by ZeroMultiply by Zero

Multiply by Zero

Kicking things off for black today, we have Multiply by ZeroMultiply by Zero, an interesting instant speed removal spell. While this won't take out creatures with buffed stats, it can deal with indestructible threats. If you have a few people in your playgroup with Gods leading their decks for example, throwing this into a few of your lists could be the solution you've been looking for.

(See Massacre Girl, Known KillerMassacre Girl, Known Killer as a possible commander pairing.)

Winter, Tormented LonerWinter, Tormented Loner

Winter, Tormented Loner

Fleshbag MarauderFleshbag Marauder is already a staple level card, which is why Winter, Tormented LonerWinter, Tormented Loner makes it onto the list today. Not only does it give you a choice if you'd want to wipe some creatures off the board, but it can also grow over time if you're filling up your graveyard turn after turn.

(See Meren of Clan Nel TothMeren of Clan Nel Toth as a possible commander pairing.)

Cast Away DoubtCast Away Doubt

Cast Away Doubt

Spells that cost three mana and allow you to draw two cards are something we see pretty often, but what sets Cast Away DoubtCast Away Doubt apart from those is that you get to lower everyone's life totals as it resolves. If you have a deck with the goal of dealing direct damage, then this can pull double duty for you, stocking your hand while putting your opponents on the back foot.

(See Judith, Carnage ConnoisseurJudith, Carnage Connoisseur as a possible commander pairing.)

Honorable Mentions

Way of the Necromancer
Rewrite Regrets
Screeching Soulbreaker

Way of the NecromancerWay of the Necromancer: Great for a superfriends deck, turning your creatures dying into a way to build up your planeswalkers.
Rewrite RegretsRewrite Regrets: A solid recursion spell for a good rate, plus you get that Jace token.
Screeching SoulbreakerScreeching Soulbreaker: Lifegain decks will love this flyer since it can attack pretty freely in order to get that trigger.

RED

Tomik, Izzet SparkmageTomik, Izzet Sparkmage

Tomik, Izzet Sparkmage

Spending two mana to add one more point of damage to all your spells is a great rate, which is why Tomik, Izzet SparkmageTomik, Izzet Sparkmage made it onto today's list. Getting this down in the early game could just supercharge the right deck, since every ping you throw around the table gets a little bit better thanks to this legend.

(See Ingris StingerquillIngris Stingerquill as a possible commander pairing.)

Koth, the GeomancerKoth, the Geomancer

Koth, the Geomancer

Next up, we have a one person value engine known as Koth, the GeomancerKoth, the Geomancer. Dealing one damage to your opponents for a land entering is great, but if it happens to be a Mountain, you get a red mana in return. That's such a powerful effect, since it can help you chain into more spells in a single turn.

(See Zell DinchtZell Dincht as a possible commander pairing.)

Command the StageCommand the Stage

Command the Stage

I wasn't originally going to talk about Command the StageCommand the Stage, until I realized something: this works super well with several popular commanders. Vivi OrnitierVivi Ornitier, Kuja, Genome SorcererKuja, Genome Sorcerer and Gandalf, Goblins' BaneGandalf, Goblins' Bane can all put this spell to great use. Not only does it trigger all of the effects that like to see you resolve noncreature spells, but it also buffs up your board of tokens while ensuring that you always have something to cast in your hand.

Honorable Mentions

Way of the Pyromancer
Pia, Determined Rebuilder
Gallia, the Merrymaker

Way of the PyromancerWay of the Pyromancer: Incredible setup card in a deck with a planeswalker commander, plus it could just be a normal ramp piece using that Jace token.
Pia, Determined RebuilderPia, Determined Rebuilder: While not a slam dunk in most strategies, that activated ability could simply knock someone out of a game.
Gallia, the MerrymakerGallia, the Merrymaker: Solid haste enabler in a deck that loads up the board with +1/+1 counters.

GREEN

Loot, the NexusLoot, the Nexus

Loot, the Nexus

What better way to kick off our green section for today than with Loot, the NexusLoot, the Nexus? This legend will scale with the game, tapping for more and more mana as you build up your team. The next time you take a look at a deck that needs additional ramp, note how many of your creatures have different powers, because your findings may just suggest that Loot should join the 99.

(See Ms. BumbleflowerMs. Bumbleflower as a possible commander pairing.)

Ghalta the UnstoppableGhalta the Unstoppable

Ghalta the Unstoppable

Stompy decks will love what Ghalta the UnstoppableGhalta the Unstoppable brings to the party: trample for your whole board, and a giant body to attack with. In recent years, we've seen the power four or greater theme show up on more cards, which is perfect for a creature like Ghalta. Having just one 4/4 in play means that this giant Dinosaur only costs five mana... That's scary.

(See Eshki, Temur's RoarEshki, Temur's Roar as a possible commander pairing.)

Pia, Aether AsceticPia, Aether Ascetic

Pia, Aether Ascetic

Enchantress decks are always scary to face, since there are so many ways for them to take over the game. Pia, Aether AsceticPia, Aether Ascetic can make those lists even more frightening, since she allows you to find the exact right spell you'll need for that moment in the game, acting as almost a second copy of your favorite enchantments.

(See Sythis, Harvest's HandSythis, Harvest's Hand as a possible commander pairing.)

Honorable Mentions

Jiang Yanggu, Never Alone
Compel Brutality
Greenhouse Propagator

Jiang Yanggu, Never AloneJiang Yanggu, Never Alone: Here's a solid untapping effect for token decks, plus that 3/3 Dog will be great to add to your board.
Compel BrutalityCompel Brutality: Punch spells are nice to have around, and this one even lets a planeswalker deal the damage.
Greenhouse PropagatorGreenhouse Propagator: Great for lifegain decks, adding ramp and padding your life total.

COLORLESS (Just Honorable Mentions)

Murmuring Volume
Archive Arbiter
Eye of Jace

Murmuring VolumeMurmuring Volume: This three mana value rock seems worth it for decks looking to rummage some cards away during a game.
Archive ArbiterArchive Arbiter: Here's a new take on Meteor GolemMeteor Golem, which costs one less and adds flying to the mix.
Eye of JaceEye of Jace: Solid for any decks that are looking to include top-deck manipulation for a cheap rate.

AZORIUS

Fatehold CharmFatehold Charm

Fatehold Charm

This spell offers up a wide range of useful effects. Fatehold CharmFatehold Charm can draw you a card and make you a Jace token, bounce a spell off the stack or creature back to someone's hand, or give your board +1/+2, all at instant speed. That's a good amount of value for only two mana.

(See Commodore GuffCommodore Guff as a possible commander pairing.)

DIMIR

Theorix CharmTheorix Charm

Theorix Charm

While I may think that Theorix CharmTheorix Charm is the weakest member of this new cycle, it still provides some good value for its cost. It offers up an effect similar to Thought ScourThought Scour, while possibly countering a noncreature spell or removing a small creature.

(See Kess, Dissident MageKess, Dissident Mage as a possible commander pairing.)

RAKDOS

Stingerquill CharmStingerquill Charm

Stingerquill Charm

While the token and three damage that Stingerquill CharmStingerquill Charm throws out are nice, I actually really like that middle option on this card. Often in games of commander, people can mindlessly assign blocks, which means that you can catch them off guard by giving an attacker first strike and deathtouch in order to take out one of their value pieces by surprise.

(See Smaug the ImpenetrableSmaug the Impenetrable as a possible commander pairing.)

GRUUL

Konstrari CharmKonstrari Charm

Konstrari Charm

I love the ramp and removal that Konstrari CharmKonstrari Charm provides, but I want to highlight the combat trick portion of this spell. Handing out two counters plus trample could just be the thing that wins you a game. Swing in with a big creature that people think they can just chump block, only to buff it up and allow its damage to crash on over.

(See Kalamax, the StormsireKalamax, the Stormsire as a possible commander pairing.)

Heartwood CrafterHeartwood Crafter

Heartwood Crafter

I really love the design of Heartwood CrafterHeartwood Crafter, since it feeds into itself, while also supporting additional deck archetypes. If you have a list centered around casting cards from exile, off the top of your library or more prepared spells like this one, this one-drop mana dork will be there to help!

(See Faldorn, Dread Wolf HeraldFaldorn, Dread Wolf Herald as a possible commander pairing.)

SELESNYA

Vigorbloom CharmVigorbloom Charm

Vigorbloom Charm

Finally, we have my favorite member of this new cycle, Vigorbloom CharmVigorbloom Charm. Giving a creature solid protection, a counter to help with fighting or drawing a card and gaining three life is a great combination of effects. Keep an eye out for this one in your packs, because it's incredibly useful for any deck in these colors.

(See Cloud, Ex-SOLDIERCloud, Ex-SOLDIER as a possible commander pairing.)

Vigorbloom VanguardVigorbloom Vanguard

Vigorbloom Vanguard

There are several creatures out there that give keywords to your team if they have +1/+1 counters on them, and Vigorbloom VanguardVigorbloom Vanguard now gets to join their ranks! Providing vigilance to your board, while also being able to pass out a counter is a lot of value for a two drop in these colors.

(See Hamza, Guardian of ArashinHamza, Guardian of Arashin as a possible commander pairing.)

BloombruteBloombrute

Bloombrute

If you're planning on building around the new Elder Sphinx Kwia VigorbloomKwia Vigorbloom, you should keep an eye out for BloombruteBloombrute. When these two are paired together in a deck centered around gaining life on everyone's turn, a simple uptick on your life total will make you a Lotus token and draw you a card. That's a lot of value for your opponents to deal with!

ORZHOV

Edgar, Ancient BloodlordEdgar, Ancient Bloodlord

Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord

Aristocrat decks will love to see Edgar, Ancient BloodlordEdgar, Ancient Bloodlord in play, since it not only pads your life total when your creatures die, but it could also help with sacrificing them to gain a counter and menace. If you pair this with a commander that also likes to see members of your team bite the dust, they can make for a great one-two punch together.

(See Zurgo StormrenderZurgo Stormrender as a possible commander pairing.)

IZZET

Saheeli, Jewel of AvishkarSaheeli, Jewel of Avishkar

Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar

We've seen creatures in the past that give you tokens for casting noncreature spells, but Saheeli, Jewel of AvishkarSaheeli, Jewel of Avishkar sets herself apart by giving those Thopters haste. If you have a deck that can chain spells together, then this legend could lead to some explosive turns where you can swing in the air in order to deal a lot of damage out of nowhere.

(See Veyran, Voice of DualityVeyran, Voice of Duality as a possible commander pairing.)

GOLGARI

Ferocity of the HuntFerocity of the Hunt

Ferocity of the Hunt

I almost didn't talk about Ferocity of the HuntFerocity of the Hunt when I first put this list together, however that changed while I was watching LoadingReadyRun's prerelease for the set. Watching cards in action can really help you see how valuable they truly are, and in practice this Aura works as a protection spell and could even help with removing a creature thanks to that deathtouch.

(See The Gitrog, Ravenous RideThe Gitrog, Ravenous Ride as a possible commander pairing.)

BOROS

Mabel, Valley HeroMabel, Valley Hero

Mabel, Valley Hero

Do you have a deck that brings a lot of creatures into play as the game goes on? Well then Mabel, Valley HeroMabel, Valley Hero is just the legend you've been looking for. Handing out counters to your board just for creatures hitting play is a good amount of value, and those boosted stats could just be the thing that carries you to a win.

(See Winota, Joiner of ForcesWinota, Joiner of Forces as a possible commander pairing.)

The Wrap Up

Well, there you have it, my picks for the best commons and uncommons from Reality Fracture! This edition of Bulk Up was a whole lot of fun to put together, because we really got to see a lot of niche strategies get some good support thanks to these new cards. If any of these caught your eye today, be sure to look out for them while you open packs of this set, because you won't want them to just sit in your collection, gathering dust.

That's it for me today, but if you want more budget focused content, you can find it right here on EDHREC, or on my YouTube channel The Pillow Fort. I'm currently releasing a lot of videos centered around this new set, so I'd love to see you over there!
