<p style="text-align: right;"><em><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Denzilore Fatehold" href="#" target="_blank">Denzilore Fatehold</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> | Art by <a href="https://www.originalmagicart.store/collections/dmitry-burmak">Dmitry Burmak</a></em></p>
<p>It's been a few weeks since the release of <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/fra"><em>Reality Fracture</em></a>, and this set has truly been a major boost to the Commander format. Thousands of decks are being brewed around these new legends, especially the Elder Sphinxes. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Denzilore Fatehold" href="#" target="_blank">Denzilore Fatehold</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, the Azorius <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-wu" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span> member of this cycle, has now risen to the 4th most built commander from the main set (at the time of writing).</p>
<p>When I first read this legend, I was immediately intrigued. I'm a big fan of the <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/plus-1-plus-1-counters">+1/+1 Counter</a> archetype, and I adore top deck manipulation, so I was excited to build around both of them in the same list! My name is <a href="https://linktr.ee/pillowfortmtg">Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks</a>, and today I'll be covering a budget brew for Denzilore that you can pick up for about $40. Let's get more familiar with the leader of this 99 before jumping into the rest of the deck.</p>
<h2>What Does Denzilore Fatehold Bring to the Table?</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Denzilore Fatehold"></div></div>
<p>Hitting play at flash speed, it's the Hexhaven dean that loves to stack the deck in your favor, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Denzilore Fatehold" href="#" target="_blank">Denzilore Fatehold</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This commander throws +1/+1 counters across your entire board whenever you scry or surveil, which adds a way to close out the game while smoothing out your draws.</p>
<p>This legend really works well on a budget, since any card that does something useful while also scrying or surveilling gets even better in this 99. So, while we look over the cards that make up this deck, try to think about how many of them may be sitting in your bulk right now. With all that in mind, let's get right into it with the main game plan for the list: sculpting the top of your library.</p>
<h2>Top Deck Manipulation</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Siani, Eye of the Storm"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Political Triumph"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Cryptic Annelid"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Siani, Eye of the Storm" href="#" target="_blank">Siani, Eye of the Storm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Creatures that scry or surveil when they attack are great for this list, since they'll trigger your commander's ability to pump the board just in time to deal even more damage during combat.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Political Triumph" href="#" target="_blank">Political Triumph</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This deck is filled with ways to manipulate the top of your library for simply having creatures enter play. I'm a big fan of this one-drop enchantment since it not only offers up that scry, but it also can add even more +1/+1 counters after a few turns of deploying members of your team.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cryptic Annelid" href="#" target="_blank">Cryptic Annelid</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: There are plenty of creatures that scry or surveil when they themselves enter, and this Worm may be the best out of all of them. When it hits play, you'll be able to really stack the deck in your favor for future turns.</li>
</ul>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Sphinx of Foresight"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Sigiled Starfish"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Prudent Fateseer"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sphinx of Foresight" href="#" target="_blank">Sphinx of Foresight</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Cards that allow you to look at the top of your library right at the start of a turn are very useful for helping keep this deck's engine moving. Not only does it assist with smoothing out your draws, but it also ensures that you're adding another counter to your creatures without much effort on your part.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sigiled Starfish" href="#" target="_blank">Sigiled Starfish</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: On-board ways to sculpt the top of your library can also be tricky for this deck. Having this Starfish in play will make it harder for your opponents to figure out blocks or total combat damage from your attackers when you can simply buff your team with a single tap.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Prudent Fateseer" href="#" target="_blank">Prudent Fateseer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: There are a lot of new cards from <em>Reality Fracture</em> that also care about scrying and surveilling, which is what landed this creature on today's list. It can consistently add +1/+0 to your board, while also creating a token and surveilling thanks to that prepared spell.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Card Advantage</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Rumor Gatherer"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Matoya, Archon Elder"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Consider"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rumor Gatherer" href="#" target="_blank">Rumor Gatherer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Continuing with the theme of scrying when creatures enter, we have an Elf with the ability to draw you an extra card when a second creature hits your battlefield. This is a huge amount of value that pushes your game plan forward, while putting more options into your hand.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Matoya, Archon Elder" href="#" target="_blank">Matoya, Archon Elder</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This legend can offer up a huge amount of value for this deck. Since there are so many ways to scry or surveil in the 99, you could be drawing multiple extra cards a turn for simply doing what this list is built to do.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Consider" href="#" target="_blank">Consider</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Throughout the deck, there are a healthy number of spells like this powerful cantrip. They're easy to cast, and give you access to a new card, all while triggering your commander's ability to throw counters on your board.</li>
</ul>
<h2>+1/+1 Counter Synergies</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Pensive Professor"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Abzan Falconer"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Envoy of the Ancestors"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pensive Professor" href="#" target="_blank">Pensive Professor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Drawing extra cards with this creature is going to be great, but on top of that value, it also starts growing with +1/+1 counters in the early game, building up to be a bigger threat all while keeping your hand stocked.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Abzan Falconer" href="#" target="_blank">Abzan Falconer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: The way this deck is going to win is through combat damage, thanks to the massive creatures you'll build up as the game goes on. Giving all of them flying is a great way to help them evade blocks, and push damage forward turn after turn.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Envoy of the Ancestors" href="#" target="_blank">Envoy of the Ancestors</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Since your board is going to look pretty scary, you may become the enemy at the table. Throwing out lifelink to your board helps with padding your life total, and keeps you out of the danger zone when your opponents are looking to take you out.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Interaction and Protection</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Banishing Betrayal"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Spellgyre"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Gods Willing"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Banishing Betrayal" href="#" target="_blank">Banishing Betrayal</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: I've been adding this spell to more decks, since it offers up a great amount of value for the low cost of two mana. In this deck, you'll be able to trip up an opponent's game plan, while surveilling and buffing your whole team at instant speed.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spellgyre" href="#" target="_blank">Spellgyre</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Four mana is a lot for a counterspell, I know; however, this card is incredibly useful for this list. You can pass the turn with four mana up, and either protect your board, or surveil and draw two on the end step before your turn.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gods Willing" href="#" target="_blank">Gods Willing</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Once everyone else at the table understands how important Denzilore is to your deck, they're going to try to go after it, which means that spending only one mana to protect your commander while scrying is just the thing that could help save you the game.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Mana Ramp</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="H.E.R.B.I.E., Lovable Robot"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Scholar of New Horizons"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Claim Jumper"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="H.E.R.B.I.E., Lovable Robot" href="#" target="_blank">H.E.R.B.I.E., Lovable Robot</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This colorless mana dork supports this deck in three different ways. Not only does it ramp you, but it also allows you to surveil and is a flyer that can grow with counters, becoming a threat in the late game.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Scholar of New Horizons" href="#" target="_blank">Scholar of New Horizons</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Here's one of my favorite white ramp pieces, because it can help you get more lands turn after turn. I have this Scout in my favorite deck built around <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Shadrix Silverquill" href="#" target="_blank">Shadrix Silverquill</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and let me tell you, it has found me so many Plains throughout the course of a game thanks to having a constant stream of counters to remove.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Claim Jumper" href="#" target="_blank">Claim Jumper</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Sometimes, just having a creature hit play and find you some lands is all you need to keep up with the rest of that table. On top of that upside, this Rabbit is also just a 3/3 with vigilance that'll add a lot of power to your attacks and blocks during the game.</li>
</ul>
<h2>On-Theme Lands</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Temple of Enlightenment"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Conduit Pylons"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Rivendell"></div></div>
<ul>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Temple of Enlightenment" href="#" target="_blank">Temple of Enlightenment</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Here's a land that's great in the early game to fix your mana, as well as in the late game when simply playing it for turn allows you to build up your entire team, which could be the thing that pushes you towards a win.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Conduit Pylons" href="#" target="_blank">Conduit Pylons</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: If you've seen my other deck techs, you'll know that this land shows up in most of my one- and two-color decks. Having an untapped mana source that surveils when it enters is just a lot of value, since you don't fall behind on board, and you get to sculpt the top of your library in the process.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rivendell" href="#" target="_blank">Rivendell</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Adding an activated ability to scry over and over again on a land like this is a big help for smoothing out your draws, while also adding even more +1/+1 counters to your creatures turn after turn.</li>
</ul>

<h2>My Final Thoughts on Denzilore Fatehold</h2>
<p>Well, there you have it, my list for <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Denzilore Fatehold" href="#" target="_blank">Denzilore Fatehold</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> that you can pick up for about $40 (using <a href="https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/715922/magic-reality-fracture-denzilore-fatehold?irclickid=SfrVsYSKHxycUQrwtpRxjWrOUkrwNT1FNQZxz00&amp;sharedid=&amp;irpid=4913290&amp;irgwc=1&amp;afsrc=1&amp;utm_source=impact&amp;utm_medium=affiliate&amp;utm_campaign=Space+Cow+Media&amp;Language=English">TCGplayer</a> pricing). Pairing top deck manipulation with the <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/plus-1-plus-1-counters">+1/+1 Counter</a> strategy is a great combination for helping you stay ahead of your opponents, while you build up a big army to help you take over the game.</p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">What is a Typal Card?</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I’ve recorded 70+ episodes of a creature-type-based podcast, <em>Quote of Arms</em>, so I’ve seen a huge array of creature type decks. When I look at spoilers for a new set, I tend to scan for cards that specifically reference a creature type, especially those that provide a new commander, direction, or signpost card for an existing type. This approach helps me sift through the deluge of new cards and avoid product fatigue.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">From a Typal perspective, <em>Reality Fracture</em> is a bit of a mixed bag. Like its main-universe counterpart, Hexhaven offers support for the Dungeons and Dragons spellcaster classes: Bard, Wizard, Cleric, Warlock, and Sorcerer. There are also incidental support cards for a range of strategies that needed the help, as well as the occasional multi-type glue card.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’s even a card which could alter the trajectory of a niche creature type forever, which I wrote about here. Time will tell just how impactful this set winds up being, but there are several cards I’m looking to pick up for my Typal decks!</span></p>
<h3><b><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sphinx&#039;s Approach" href="#" target="_blank">Sphinx&#039;s Approach</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lyra, Archangel of Dawn" href="#" target="_blank">Lyra, Archangel of Dawn</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></b></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Sphinx&#039;s Approach"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Lyra, Archangel of Dawn"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I’ve already written a special article about <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sphinx&#039;s Approach" href="#" target="_blank">Sphinx&#039;s Approach</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> here and a deck tech on <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lyra, Archangel of Dawn" href="#" target="_blank">Lyra, Archangel of Dawn</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/lyra-archangel-of-dawn-mono-white-life-gaining-angels">here</a>, so I’ll keep this section short. Approach is going to define Sphinx decks going forward, splitting them into camps of either using or eschewing it, while Lyra is a powerful commander who may have some interesting combo potential.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Germinate Recruits" href="#" target="_blank">Germinate Recruits</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>

Wizards and Soldiers are well-supported creature types, and there are plenty of cards that can gain life when creatures enter, making this a board-in-a-can card.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kindred Judgment" href="#" target="_blank">Kindred Judgment</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Kindred Judgment"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s strange to see a Typal-oriented card like this in a main set that isn’t focused on Typal synergies. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Plague Wind" href="#" target="_blank">Plague Wind</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> sets the gold standard for one-sided board wipes, and this gives white that effect. <div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Master of Barbs"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Master of Barbs" href="#" target="_blank">Master of Barbs</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a fun card to see while <em>Bloomburrow</em> is still in recent memory. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gev, Scaled Scorch" href="#" target="_blank">Gev, Scaled Scorch</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, the unifier of the Lizard type, makes Lizards ping opponents on cast and pumps them on entering. The Master wears those counters well with menace and pumps our creatures for each instance of damage, making our Gev-grown Lizards even bigger!</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pompous Battlemage" href="#" target="_blank">Pompous Battlemage</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Pompous Battlemage"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Goblins might not want for one-drops, but they do tend to struggle with card selection. In particular, the Battlemage would work well with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Zada, Hedron Grinder" href="#" target="_blank">Zada, Hedron Grinder</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a Goblin deck that uses cheap instants and sorceries that target creatures, and then spreads those effects. Those cheap spells trigger prowess, which makes the Battlemage big enough to matter in the late game.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Omnipresence" href="#" target="_blank">Omnipresence</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Omnipresence"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Omnipresence" href="#" target="_blank">Omnipresence</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> might not be <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Omniscience" href="#" target="_blank">Omniscience</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, but it’s plenty strong and works well with creature types like Elves and Druids. Essentially, the plan is to run out mana dorks and then drop this and something like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Craterhoof Behemoth" href="#" target="_blank">Craterhoof Behemoth</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> to turn the mana dorks into big threats.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pia, Aether Ascetic" href="#" target="_blank">Pia, Aether Ascetic</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Pia, Aether Ascetic"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pia might seem like a generic enchantress card, but the ability to tutor for enchantments can act as the glue for archetypes like Shrines and Sagas, which need the help because of their relative lack of raw power. Giving them flexibility goes a long way towards making them legitimate.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord" href="#" target="_blank">Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This incarnation of Edgar combines a sacrifice outlet with a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Blood Artist" href="#" target="_blank">Blood Artist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> effect, doing both of the things Vampire aristocrat strategies are known for. He’s lurking under the radar (not flying, as he lacks the ability), but he might just be the best Vampire commander since his first incarnation.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar" href="#" target="_blank">Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Saheeli, Jewel of Avishkar"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thopters are an interesting creature type, as they have had a lot of support in various sets, but haven’t really had a commander that brings them together. Saheeli fixes this by making her own fleet and giving our Thopters haste, uniting them under the shared banner of Izzet cheap, evasive creatures.</span></p>
<h3><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hall of Echoes" href="#" target="_blank">Hall of Echoes</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Hall of Echoes"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Many creature types struggle with membership, so having a land that can imitate a member can go a long way. It removes the legend rule as well, so we can get spicy. It’s even colorless, so it can copy Eldrazi!</span></p>
<h2><strong>Conclusion</strong></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are a lot of really neat role-players in <em>Reality Fracture</em>, and even some fun build-arounds! This is a set whose impact will be felt both narratively and mechanically for quite some time, and I’m excited to see which cards make a splash and which stay under the radar.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But what cards are going into YOUR Typal decks? And what are the cards you’re looking to pick up?</span></p>
