T'Challa, the Black PantherT'Challa, the Black Panther
The King of Wakanda is here! Just like a good king, he's not the one taking the center stage of the deck, but instead helps enable the rest of the deck to shine.
While he does get bigger in his own right, he's here to give you extra mana rocks that sets up the rest of your gameplan starting from turn three and every turn afterwards! He'll be an interesting brew, so lets see what we can get going on!
Shuri, the Black PantherShuri, the Black Panther
The next in line to the Black Panther title, Shuri is continues the deck's Artifact subtheme and keeps the draw pressure up from the word go.
You can rush people down with artifact creatures, or come to find out that most decks already have tons of them already; either way, she will lead her people from the front lines!

Each of these decks brings a ton of new cards to Magic and with the different goals of the deck, Monarch and Artifacts, we get new tools for both kinds of decks! So lets take a look at the top 10 new cards from the Wakanda Forever deck.
Okoye, Mighty and AdoredOkoye, Mighty and Adored
Okoye is the full-on introduction of Monarch to Selesnya () in Commander and it was pretty fun to see it introduced this way.
Either as your Commander or in the 99, she gets you some extra draws in the colors that need it the most while also having the most amount of creatures on the field to take it back with her abilities.
Storm, Queen of WakandaStorm, Queen of Wakanda
This version of Storm won't be the last we see of her, but here she's showing off her anti-flying tendencies. She'll escort your Commander into the red zone, and keep the crown safe from the crackback.
Everett K. Ross, Hapless AttachéEverett K. Ross, Hapless Attaché
The Agents of Shield find their way as the diplomatic attaché for Wakanda, following the King around and giving him lifelink.
He also provides some draw when enemies come after you to get that life total back down. A great guy!
Dora Milaje EliteDora Milaje Elite
The Dora Milaje are here to keep not just your legendary Commander safe, but every legendary permanent safe.
Starting out on turn two will make getting a Vibranium token nearly a guarantee, just play them before you play your land per turn.
Royal Talon Fighter JetRoyal Talon Fighter Jet
This is the key card in the deck from what I can see, as the Vibranium tokens you get throughout the game would love to make this cost higher.
This is the main card in the deck that that makes mass tokens, so don't play this until you have a max amount of mana to pump into it.
Nakia, Wakandan OperativeNakia, Wakandan Operative
Honestly, having your Commander just give you Monarch is kind of amazing. Few cards let you take it from someone that already has it, but Nakia has the handle on it!
Shuri's FabricatorShuri's Fabricator
This is the main producer of Vibranium outside of the the Commander. It's also one of the best outlets in the deck for all of that extra mana too, giving a way for your artifacts to come back.
You're trying to get this just about every game, and you should feel encouraged to make riskier attacks and blocks with some of your artifacts since you know you'll get them back.
Panther RobotPanther Robot
The Panther Robot is unsurprisingly the pinnacle of what this deck wants to get out and will probably carry you to victory most often.
Having reach is a treat, but so is trample on a huge 8/8 body that comes out easy in any artifact deck - especially this one.
N'Yami-Class Mother ShipN'Yami-Class Mother Ship
This spacecraft vehicle is pretty great for Vehicle decks everywhere, and honestly any deck that can do some top-deck manipulation will love this.
Crew 3 is pretty easy for just about any deck, and since this won't have to tap to attack thanks to vigilance, we'll have a ginormous 5/7 to deter any attackers.
King Solomon's FrogsKing Solomon's Frogs
Albeit with a strange mana value minimum, this instant speed removal artifact takes three targets off of the field immediately. That's great!
Your opponents get to draw because you actually keep those permanents exiled, even if the artifact gets removed, but artifacts are way easier to flicker than enchantments.
Hatut Zeraze Strike ForceHatut Zeraze Strike Force
I think this card will actually be one of the more important takes from this deck. If you have a commander that you know will be cast and recast often, this might be a full on replacement for removal spells.
Mind you, no matter when and how often you cast this card, it's always keeping track of how often your commander was cast. So, if you bounce this to your hand once or twice, you'll constantly copy this spell; it's going to be incredibly strong for any commander that's one to three mana.
The deck wants to have your commander out often, and it wants to keep him out and attacking so you can produce Vibranium constantly. So, the best cards in the deck are focused on having that be the case.
- T'Challa, the Black PantherT'Challa, the Black Panther
- Get him out and keep him out. Find ways to get a artifact out every turn so he can keep attacking every turn as the board grows.
- Okoye, Mighty and AdoredOkoye, Mighty and Adored
- Once she comes out, I really don't think you will have to fight to keep the Monarch very much. Your opponents know you'll be swinging back at them the exact turn after, so just one draw might not be worth it.
- Shuri, the Black PantherShuri, the Black Panther
- Artifacts are everywhere, and creatures are too. Shuri wants to have both out to swing with both for victory!
These are some genuinely great cards that fit the game plan:
- Royal Talon Fighter JetRoyal Talon Fighter Jet
- Your tons of mana rocks are all leading up to this very card, which produces the most tokens, all in one go, allowing you to go wide.
- Heart-Shaped HerbHeart-Shaped Herb
- This keeps your crown from being stolen by little 1/1 goobers.
- W'Kabi, Shield of the NationW'Kabi, Shield of the Nation
- W'Kabi is a really nice two-drop that goes along with a commander who can swing often. Having a 4/4 Rhino that keeps you safe from counter-pushes for free is wonderful.
Here's the suite of green/white removal:
- DispatchDispatch
- A reprint that goes into every single artifact precon with white, and it makes sense here.
- The Spear of BashengaThe Spear of Bashenga
- Not only does this card come in and gives you the Monarch, but if someone risks taking it from you, they'll get their most prized possession removed for their insolence!
- Fight for the ThroneFight for the Throne
- This could be a casual fight card in the millions of green decks out there that also introduce the Monarch to the game.
Get more cards in your hands with these card advantage tools:
- Palace JailerPalace Jailer
- Not only does this card remove something for you, but you can politick with the table to remove the biggest threat and maybe keep the crown as payment.
- Wakanda Forever!Wakanda Forever!
- For six mana, you get one free permanent into play, one into hand and four more into your graveyard as well, which can work for a ton of different decks.
- Ancestral CommunionAncestral Communion
- Having your Commander out is easy enough, and being able to copy the spell for free is pretty sweet.
While the deck out of the box doesn't contain any combos, as a precon shouldn't, the deck also lacks synergies that truly rack the brain. Your commander tends to be a small enough threat that no one is going to target him and he'll give you some limited mana rocks. You use those rocks to cast some neat artifacts sooner than usual and pay a few activated abilities without as much of a drawback as normal.
Keep up the pressure with artifacts and cheap creatures that love your Commander staying out turn after turn and you'll learn how just keeping up the pressure in is more than enough in a Commander game.
You'll always have at least one extra draw per turn thanks to the myriad ways to get and keep Monarch, so honestly, you'll be fine with winning the game without a single real combo.
With 38 lands (which the Commander community has been coming around to this being the correct number), we've got a good smattering of -producing lands.
The real utility lands give you Vibranium, the Monarch, or lets you cycle for a card draw. And the costs of these lands' abilities can be paid with those free Vibranium tokens you're getting all game.
There isn't really much to mention here in terms of new mana rocks, but we love to see these new Wakanda arts on Gilded LotusGilded Lotus, Sword of the AnimistSword of the Animist, and Thran DynamoThran Dynamo.
You'll cast each of these, and equip the Sword quickly, thanks again to the Vibranium tokens.
Upgrades for Wakanda Forever
There are some cards to consider taking out for any upgrades to this deck. Almost no matter what direction you end up wanting to go, these don't do enough versus what cards we'd replace them for.
Whispersilk CloakWhispersilk Cloak feels like something to keep around since unlockable is very good to keep T'Challa attacking. But, we actually want to have the ability to equip more to him to let him keep attacking, which is prevented by shroud.
While I love the Monarch and I do find it to be a good way to keep cards going to your hand, these green cards that help us recover it if we've lost it are not worth it, in my opinion. So M'Baku, Jabari ChieftainM'Baku, Jabari Chieftain, and honestly even T'Chaka, Venerable KingT'Chaka, Venerable King just aren't needed.
When looking at the full list, Divine VisitationDivine Visitation has almost nothing to do in this deck for the majority of the time, as it triggers on creature tokens only. With only three cards in the deck making creature tokens, lets take those cards out if we're not focused on that as a strategy.
Five Additions on a Budget
If we're looking at budget adds, I want to make sure you make the best use of your free Vibranium tokens.
Sometimes we want to make use of casting artifacts with big costs like Dyadrine, Synthesis AmalgamDyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam and Valor's FlagshipValor's Flagship.
Next up, we want value off of the fact that we're consistently making tokens for free. Yotian DissidentYotian Dissident get on in here.
Lastly, mana sinks like Digsite EngineerDigsite Engineer and Steel HellkiteSteel Hellkite are the outputs that we absolutely need. The fact that we get extra mana to make use of them is what sets the deck apart from every other.
Five Additions With No Budget
Now if we're going all out, here are some huge upgrades for this deck, which each picked for their ability to make use of all that extra mana. Emiel the BlessedEmiel the Blessed and Caretaker's TalentCaretaker's Talent give us some incredibly awesome tools in that regard.
Amulet of VigorAmulet of Vigor is a pricy one, but we get to make use of the Vibranium immediately, and if we were to get token-doublers like Mondrak, Glory DominusMondrak, Glory Dominus, we might combine them with Emiel to go infinite.
Lastly, we obviously need to put the OG Black Panther, Wakandan KingBlack Panther, Wakandan King in here. Thankfully, he works just as well here and our free Vibranium will let get those +1/+1 counters off the land he's charging up.
Game Changers
The One RingThe One Ring is an easy add, as it's the greatest artifact in existence. Teferi's ProtectionTeferi's Protection keeps everything together despite the world constantly trying to invade Wakanda. Lastly, Enlightened TutorEnlightened Tutor puts the most valuable artifacts to the top of the deck to get into our hands the moment we're good to cast them.
The deck's MSRP is $74.99 with about $120 value of cards in it. Using Card Kingdom pricing and ignoring the price of new cards, we see that we're getting more value out of the deck than we are paying for it in terms of reprints, which all have new arts.
- Bountiful PromenadeBountiful Promenade
- We love to see these lands in precons more than just about any lands possible!
- Hammer of NazahnHammer of Nazahn
- Is both important to the deck while also being a lovely reprint.
- Helm of the HostHelm of the Host
- Usually this card takes too many resources to play and equip, but since we're getting tokens that pay for it, I find it a lot more palatable.
- Sword of the AnimistSword of the Animist
- A valuable card to keep lands entering play that's always good to see reprinted.
- Birds of ParadiseBirds of Paradise.
- Less about it being a valuable reprint, and more about this iconic card having a new art from the MCU.
After seeing this deck in action on all the various YouTube channels, I can say that this deck actually plays quite well.
The mixture of low-drop creatures that curve directly into your commander, who then accelerates the rest of your game plan, is a perfect show of a well-executed deck.
If you're looking to try out this representation of a technologically advanced nation from Marvel, I couldn't imagine a better start!
