Fire and Ice: Which Cards Are Hot and Cold for Mr. House, President and CEO?

Welcome back to Fire and Ice! This is the data-driven series where I go over cards that are becoming more or less popular for different Commander decks, and talk about why they may be gaining or losing popularity. I'm Julia, EDHREC's Duchess of Data, and I'm super excited to jump into today's article!

EDHREC, of course, has a ton of data. We'll draw conclusions from that data about how certain commanders' decks have changed over time, give insight into how the format's players are thinking about new cards, and hopefully provide some tech for your favorite commander's list.

As part of our ongoing focus on EDHREC's most popular commanders, we'll be analyzing some trends for Mr. House, President and CEOMr. House, President and CEO today!

What's Hot and What's Not for Mr. House, President and CEO

What's Hot and What's Not for Mr. House, President and CEO

Mr. House, President and CEO

The House always wins, as they say. Mr. House's abilities seem built for six-sided dice, but interact extremely well with the twenty-sided dice cards that the Dungeons and Dragons focused sets provided to Commander players.

Mr. House is strong, flavorful, and lets Commander players roll dice as a game action. What else could we ask for?

Among his most popular cards are Chaos DragonChaos Dragon (in 73% of lists), XornXorn (70%), and Comet, Stellar PupComet, Stellar Pup (66%). These are all strong cards individually, and Mr. House makes them even more fearsome.

What's Fiery for Mr. House Decks?

Exalted SunbornExalted Sunborn - Fire Score of 4.44

Exalted Sunborn

This is one of the best cards released in 2025. A token doubler on a creature? That can be cast for just ? Sign me up. Mr. House focuses pretty heavily on both creature tokens and Treasure tokens, making this Angel doubly effective.

Rent Is DueRent Is Due - Fire Score of 3.93

Rent Is Due

This Spider-Man enchantment is gaining popularity, but it's only in 45 lists at the moment. It makes sense as an include, turning the tokens we make into card advantage, but it's likely not in more lists due to the sentiment directed at the set it released in.

I'd bet that if this enchantment were printed in a different set, it would be a staple in Mr. House decks.

Professional Face-BreakerProfessional Face-Breaker - Fire Score of 3.33

Professional Face-Breaker

This is one of the best creatures ever printed, and I'll stand by that take. It provides both mana advantage and card advantage on an efficiently costed, evasive body. What more could you ask for? In a deck like this one that makes tons of Treasures, this card really shines.

Adagia, Windswept BastionAdagia, Windswept Bastion - Fire Score of 2.88

Adagia, Windswept Bastion

Typical Mr. House lists don't run a ton of artifacts or enchantments, but they do have a few highly impactful ones. Cards like Vexing PuzzleboxVexing Puzzlebox and Revel in RichesRevel in Riches are fantastic in this list, and making copies of them can be game-ending.

Failing that, this Planet can make extra Treasures or creature tokens. It's a great card that can be included at a very low deckbuilding cost.

Losheel, Clockwork ScholarLosheel, Clockwork Scholar - Fire Score of 2.52

Losheel, Clockwork Scholar

This Elephant protects the Robots we make, and lets us draw cards as we carry out our game plan. We can even leverage Losheel's ability to draw multiple cards per turn cycle by activating Mr. House's second ability during an opponent's turn.

Weftstalker ArdentWeftstalker Ardent - Fire Score of 2.30

Weftstalker Ardent

This is another one of the best cards printed in 2025. Reckless FireweaverReckless Fireweaver / Impact TremorsImpact Tremors effects like this are always strong, but it's rare for a card to ping opponents when both artifacts and creatures enter. When considering the fact that this Drix Artificer can be cast temporarily for just , it's not hard to see why the Weftstalker is gaining popularity with Mr. Houe pilots. If we roll a six or higher on any die, Weftstalker Ardent will ping each opponent for two damage (one from the Treasure and one from the Robot).

That's a fast track to victory.

What's Icy for Mr. House Decks?

Six-Sided DieSix-Sided Die - Ice Score of -3.01

Six-Sided Die

This is an interesting spell, because the diversity of outcomes makes it seem better than it really is. Rolling a one does basically nothing. Rolling a two, three, or four doesn't guarantee that we'll actually kill the creature that we target. And there's much lower costed options that perform the same function as rolling a five or a six.

I'd rather play almost any two-mana removal spell over six-sided die, even if it does have some synergy with our commander.

Night Shift of the Living DeadNight Shift of the Living Dead - Ice Score of -2.69

Night Shift of the Living Dead

This card's first ability is quite strong, especially in our 40-life format. We won't always need +1 on our dice rolls, but it's certainly nice to have on hand. Its second ability, though, is much worse. Mr. House decks usually focus on rolling d20s, not d6s, so it'll actually be quite rare for us to roll a six.

With all that said, is way too much to pay for an enchantment that doesn't impact the game in any meaningful way. This is a cute card, but not a very good one.

Circuits ActCircuits Act - Ice Score of 2.61

Circuits Act

For , we make between one and three 1/1 creature tokens. I know that rolling dice is also part of Circuits Act's appeal, but rolling d6s isn't actually very good. We've only got a 50% chance to roll a four or above on each die (and a 16% chance to roll a six on each die), meaning we won't be getting many Mr. House triggers from this spell.

This is a piece of Unfinity draft chaff, and doesn't really have a space in constructed play.

Intangible VirtueIntangible Virtue - Ice Score of -2.48

Intangible Virtue

This enchantment turns our 3/3 Robots into 4/4 Robots with vigilance. That's a pretty sweet deal! Most anthems cost more mana than this, so Intangible Virtue is actually a great include for most token lists. Vigilance is an underrated keyword, especially for a board full of creature tokens, as it removes the threat of a lethal crackback attack.

If you've got some insights on why Mr. House pilots are turning away from this card, please do let me know in the comments.

Earth-Cult ElementalEarth-Cult Elemental - Ice Score of -2.28

Earth-Cult Elemental

This card has a decent ETB effect, with an edict that may only affect our opponents attached to its 6/6 body. But sadly, this creature is a generic 6/6 after its enters ability resolves. That means we're paying for a vanilla beatstick, which isn't really good enough for Commander.

Recruitment DriveRecruitment Drive - Ice Score of -2.22

Recruitment Drive

This sorcery is like Circuits ActCircuits Act. While it only lets us roll one die, its a d20. That's better for Mr. House, but this spell's effect leaves much to be desired. Even if we luck out and roll a 20, we just get three 2/2 creatures. While that's technically above rate, I'd rather spend my rolling dice in almost any other way.

Unexpected WindfallUnexpected Windfall - Ice Score of -2.08

Unexpected Windfall

Ah yes, a worse version of Big ScoreBig Score. We do like making Treasures, as we've got some synergies for the tokens built into our commander. But this spell isn't actually card advantage; it's just card selection. After we cast spell from our hand and discard a card as part of its cost, we get to draw two cards. That leaves us with the same number of cards that we began with in our hand.

Even if it does net us two Treasure tokens, I think we can do better for our card advantage.

ThunderwaveThunderwave - Ice Score of -2.06

Thunderwave

Another lackluster dice rolling spell. Each mode of this spell is over-costed, except for its final (and least likely) option. If we'd really like to play a board wipe that rolls dice, I'd opt instead for Reckless EndeavorReckless Endeavor. That sorcery rolls more dice and creates Treasure tokens. It's true that Reckless Endeavor costs more than Thunderwave, but it's worth every penny.
