Wombo Combo falls from the heavens again, bringing you another list of top Commander combo cards with EDHREC and Commander Spellbook data. This week, we transcend the mortal plane and look to the heavens for Commander's best God combo cards!

Gods, by design, don't tend to have strong synergy together as a type, unlike more kindred-friendly types such as Zombies or Goblins. Gods tend to have very strong effects that are meant to dominate the battlefield, and work great to command a deck around. A good selection of Gods has indestructible and requires devotion to be creatures, both of which would be applicable to Gods in the real world. Gods have a variety of utility from milling cards to combat phases and everything in between. Let's see what godly combos we can conjure!

#10: Nylea, Keen-Eyed

Number of Combos: 90

Deck Inclusions: 620 as commander (#1,971); 44,840 as card (0.99%)

Making mana is great, but saving mana can be just as useful sometimes. Nylea, Keen-EyedNylea, Keen-Eyed reduces the cost of your creature spells by , which can help cover some of the mana costs for combos. Reducing a Workshop AssistantWorkshop Assistant lets the mana from Krark-Clan IronworksKrark-Clan Ironworks fully pay for it, as does AethersnipeAethersnipe's evoke cost with Gwenna, Eyes of GaeaGwenna, Eyes of Gaea's ability. The cost reduction does only apply to generic mana, but that still allows Myr ScraplingMyr Scrapling to be cast for free because of it.

#9: Thassa, Deep-Dwelling

Number of Combos: 101

Deck Inclusions: 1,383 as commander (#1,366); 117,815 as card (2.45%)

Thassa, Deep-DwellingThassa, Deep-Dwelling has a simple benefit of blinking a creature once per turn. While a simple effect that allows you to get additional ETB (enters the battlefield) and LTB (leaves) triggers, it has a surprising amount of utility, especially for infinite-turns combos. Blinking an ArchaeomancerArchaeomancer allows you to return an extra turn spell to your hand so you can cast it every turn. Wormfang MantaWormfang Manta can also be blinked, provided you have a Torpor OrbTorpor Orb out to stop its first ability from triggering. If you happen to play stax, you can blink Azor, the LawbringerAzor, the Lawbringer each turn to make your opponents that much more miserable.

#8: Athreos, Shroud-Veiled

Number of Combos: 122

Deck Inclusions: 2,302 as commander (#1,017); 48,886 as card (2.22%)

Athreos, Shroud-VeiledAthreos, Shroud-Veiled (which doesn't have shroud, contrary to what the name would suggest) introduces the coin counter, where creatures with a coin counter can be returned to the battlefield when they die or get exiled. Putting a coin counter on Skullbriar, the Walking GraveSkullbriar, the Walking Grave allows it to keep the counter as it moves between zones, making a simple reanimation-style combo. Enduring BondwardenEnduring Bondwarden and Resourceful DefenseResourceful Defense are solid options, moving counters between creatures repeatedly.

#7: Heliod, the Radiant Dawn // Heliod, the Warped Eclipse

Number of Combos: 259

Deck Inclusions: 6,402 as commander (#440); 42,667 as card (1.91%)

Heliod, the Radiant DawnHeliod, the Radiant Dawn specifically has an ability that is meant not to synergize with Gods, but we mostly care about Heliod, the Warped Eclipse's cost reductions for combo purposes. If you're able to have opponents draw cards (or your opponents draw large amounts during their turns), you can easily turn that into cheap spells that make combos much simpler. Ghostly FlickerGhostly Flicker, Sensei's Divining TopSensei's Divining Top and Appa, Steadfast GuardianAppa, Steadfast Guardian are all prime suspects for this effect. Buyback spells are also great, as Heliod can reduce both the mana and buyback costs.

#6: Heliod, Sun-Crowned

Number of Combos: 348

Deck Inclusions: 5,201 as commander (#551); 139,222 as card (3.07%)

Heliod, Sun-CrownedHeliod, Sun-Crowned's effect is simple: when you gain life, you put a +1/+1 counter on a creature or enchantment. This essentially lets you make any creature an Ajani's PridemateAjani's Pridemate, which can turn some creatures into strong combo engines. The simplest examples include Spike FeederSpike Feeder and Walking BallistaWalking Ballista after you give it lifelink with Heliod's activated ability. Kitchen FinksKitchen Finks is also a great choice, as its life gain will trigger Heliod to offset the -1/-1 counter placed by Kitchen Finks' persist ability. There are also options for redundancy, including cards like Spider-Man, Peter ParkerSpider-Man, Peter Parker and Cleric ClassCleric Class.

#5: Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded

Number of Combos: 393

Deck Inclusions: 1,372 as commander (#1,372); 33,636 as card (0.69%)

Let's not get hasty here, but Purphoros, Bronze-BloodedPurphoros, Bronze-Blooded is a very useful card to slot into combat decks. Not only does it give your creatures haste, but it gives you a Sneak AttackSneak Attack-style effect, albeit a bit more expensive. Giving creatures haste is key for combos with Breath of FuryBreath of Fury, Najeela, the Blade-BlossomNajeela, the Blade-Blossom and Sword of Hearth and HomeSword of Hearth and Home. Purphoros's effect can also be used to tap mana dorks (like Selvala, Heart of the WildsSelvala, Heart of the Wilds) for mana immediately, and then bounce them back to your hand with Temur SabertoothTemur Sabertooth.

#4: Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation // Temple of Civilization

Number of Combos: 398

Deck Inclusions: 1,917 as commander (#1,145); 159,235 as card (3.51%)

If you like creature tokens, look no further! Ojer Taq will triple the number you create, making it a situationally better card than the typical token doublers like Anointed ProcessionAnointed Procession. Tripling creature tokens is a useful effect in its own right, but when paired with token generators like Spawnsire of UlamogSpawnsire of Ulamog, you get a plethora of easy combos. Other options can include Marneus CalgarMarneus Calgar, Sliver QueenSliver Queen and The Jolly Balloon ManThe Jolly Balloon Man under the right circumstances. Ojer Taq's resistance to removal by returning itself to the battlefield is also a nice benefit to keeping a key piece around for your combo needs.

#3: Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty

Number of Combos: 447

Deck Inclusions: 1,442 as commander (#1,342); 253,447 as card (5.21%)

While we talked about Heliod, the Warped Eclipse being a cost reducer, Birgi, God of StorytellingBirgi, God of Storytelling is also a cost reducer but in a different way. Rather than directly reducing the cost of the spell, Birgi rebates you after you cast it. While you'll need to cover that additional mana when you originally cast the spell, Birgi's mana can then be used for either generic or costs, making it more flexible. The mana can then be funneled into casting ReiterateReiterate, Dualcaster MageDualcaster Mage or Grinning IgnusGrinning Ignus. The back side, Harnfel, also works as a free discard outlet for madness combos.

#2: The Locust God

Number of Combos: 629

Deck Inclusions: 6,800 as commander (#402); 84,949 as card (3.69%)

The Locust GodThe Locust God makes drawing cards even more useful by also giving you 1/1 Insect creature tokens with flying and haste as you draw them. The tokens can then also be turned into drawing cards, thanks to a plethora of effects including Kindred DiscoveryKindred Discovery, Mister Fantastic, Reed RichardsMister Fantastic, Reed Richards and Weatherlight CompleatedWeatherlight Compleated. Since The Locust God only cares about drawing cards, you can also use looting effects such as Sage of the FallsSage of the Falls which'll work just as nicely. Niv-Mizzet, VisionaryNiv-Mizzet, Visionary also loves The Locust God's tokens, which can trigger Impact TremorsImpact Tremors and similar cards to deal damage.

#1: Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight

Number of Combos: 2,043

Acting as a counterpoint to Mikaeus, the UnhallowedMikaeus, the Unhallowed, Isilu gives each nontoken creature you control persist. When paired with Mikaeus or Luminous BroodmothLuminous Broodmoth, you can alternate the recursion methods infinitely. You can also remove the -1/-1 counter using a variety of methods, like Hex ParasiteHex Parasite and Melira, Sylvok OutcastMelira, Sylvok Outcast. Placing a +1/+1 counter on the creature is also a great option, whether the creature enters with counters or gains them from Cathars' CrusadeCathars' Crusade or a similar card. With more than 2,000 options to choose from, you'll never struggle to find a combo with Isilu.
