<p>On February 9th, Wizards of the Coast is launching the <em>Roll for Initiative</em> Superdrop, a mega-collaboration between <em>Magic: The Gathering</em> and their sister team for <em>Dungeons &amp; Dragons</em>. This batch of <em>Secret</em><em> Lair</em> drops hearkens back to releases from <em>Adventures in the Forgotten Realms</em> and <em>Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate</em>, the two <em>D&amp;D</em>-collaborative releases for <em>Magic</em>.</p>
<p>What's in these drops, and, of perhaps more importance, are these drops any good? Read on, and we'll venture our guesses!</p>

<h2><em>Shadowheart's Devotion</em></h2>
<p>This drop and one other (detailed later in this article), take after recent drops themed after <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Karlach, Fury of Avernus" href="#" target="_blank">Karlach, Fury of Avernus</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Astarion, the Decadent" href="#" target="_blank">Astarion, the Decadent</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. They detail pivotal moments in the character's journey, trials, and tribulations. The drop also features the character's card in particular.</p>
<p>In this case, the character is Shadowheart, a much-beloved character from the massively popular video game <em>Baldur's Gate III</em>. Her card left a fair amount to be desired, but <em>BG3</em> players will still probably want this drop for their own collections, partly thanks to the inclusion of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ancient Copper Dragon" href="#" target="_blank">Ancient Copper Dragon</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>

<p>The second of the two drops featuring a prolific <em>BG3</em> character is <em>Gale's Ambition</em>, which, as you may have already guessed, features <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy" href="#" target="_blank">Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This drop contains the relevant legendary creature as well as a few extremely blue cards, including <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Personal Tutor" href="#" target="_blank">Personal Tutor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> as the key "money card" in the drop. Gale fans will want to pick up this drop, as will players who want a bunch of jazzed-up versions of the blue staple cards in the drop.</p>

Furthermore, the drop is notably the first inclusion with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Wild-Magic Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Wild-Magic Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> with its most current errata (as it's now, rightly, a Sorcerer).</p>

<p>Next, we have <em>Strahd's Descent</em>. I know this one is fairly controversial because many <em>Dungeons &amp; Dragons</em> die-hards wanted original designs for Strahd. However, this is probably the next best thing if we can't get that. Anyway, as expected, we got <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Strefan, Maurer Progenitor" href="#" target="_blank">Strefan, Maurer Progenitor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, reskinned as "The Devil Strahd" (performing his best rendition of the "Family Guy" intro theme as he can). Furthermore, this drop features a reskin of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Bloodletter of Aclazotz" href="#" target="_blank">Bloodletter of Aclazotz</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> as one of Strahd's consorts.</p>

<p>There are probably plenty of reasons to bite with this superdrop. Some of these cards are likely well worth their price point, at least in nonfoil. I know I, personally, won't be doing so, but last year was a big one for <em>Secret Lair</em> drops, and I believe I went a little overboard, myself. But I'm not you, so take from that what you will!</p>

This character was raised with a strong moral compass in a vault for her entire life. Having an effect like this that gives you more bodies, while also protecting your team, is pivotal for keeping your deck versatile.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Skrelv&#039;s Hive" href="#" target="_blank">Skrelv&#039;s Hive</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Getting a creature on your upkeep is perfect for a strategy like this, since you'll want to have as many opportunities to make tokens as possible. Plus, if you give one of them to another player at the table, you're freer to swing into their board since that token can't block.</li>

Lucy has the ability to pass tokens around whenever any player makes them, so giving the entire table the chance to make Inklings means that you get to reap those benefits yourself.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hunted Lammasu" href="#" target="_blank">Hunted Lammasu</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Here's a creature that immediately brings along a friend. A 5/5 flier for only four mana is a great rate, especially when you can make a copy of that Horror token for yourself.</li>

Yes, you'll have to give someone three Spirits, but when you get to give yourself more in the exchange, you'll be up on the deal. Also, be sure to target the player with the fewest creatures at the table with that life gain effect...</li>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="On Wings of Gold" href="#" target="_blank">On Wings of Gold</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: While there isn't a way to make your own cards leave your graveyard in the list, the fact that this enchantment gives your tokens +1/+1 and flying means that they'll be stronger on <em>your</em> board than on your opponents'.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Intangible Virtue" href="#" target="_blank">Intangible Virtue</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Here's just a clean way to buff your team, while still being able to keep them back as blockers. Deterring the table from attacking you is a lot easier with this on the battlefield.</li>

It gives you the opportunity to give yourself that token, while still getting to draw a card in the process.</li>

Filling the board with tokens, and then giving you a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Preordain" href="#" target="_blank">Preordain</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> style effect when you attack is just perfect in this list. Plus, if all goes well, you could be giving your team that +4/+4 boost.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ox Drover" href="#" target="_blank">Ox Drover</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Another card that doesn't have a home in too many decks, but fits right in here. Handing out an Ox while giving yourself a card is great. Especially when Lucy can also make you an Ox in the process.</li>

You can straight up exile a creature without promising a gift, but if you do pass that Fish to an opponent, you'll get to blink something important until the next end step. Great for saving a value piece, and getting yourself a Fish upon resolution.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Generous Gift" href="#" target="_blank">Generous Gift</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This Commander staple has found a home in countless decks over the years, and it gets even better here. Replacing a scary permanent on someone's board with an Elephant is already great, but having the opportunity to get that token on your side of the table is just insult to injury.</li>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Martial Coup" href="#" target="_blank">Martial Coup</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: As I've mentioned before, wraths can be a bit rough for your board to handle, but sometimes you just need to clear the table out in order to bounce back in a game. Attaching that effect to a way to create more tokens puts you in a good place to build yourself back towards a win.</li>

Secret Lair: Secret Scare Superdrop Launches October 13th

<p>Get ready to queue up! <em>Secret Lair</em> is having its 2025 Summer Superdrop event starting today, June 9th, at 9 AM Pacific (Noon Eastern). The Superdrop event has six potential drops for you to try and nab. What are those drops, and how concerned should you be about getting them before they sell out completely? Read on, and we'll elaborate!</p>
<h2>Six Drops, One Summer (2025) <em>Secret Lair</em> Superdrop</h2>
<p>The Summer 2025 Superdrop is a big deal because in it, we are getting three <em>Final Fantasy</em>-themed drops. We covered these previously, and <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/secret-lair-x-final-fantasy-three-new-drops-revealed">you can find that coverage here</a>. Naturally, due to the intense hype surrounding the upcoming release of the <em>Final Fantasy</em> <em>Magic</em> set this Friday and the Prerelease events that happened this past weekend, demand for these will be astronomical. Expect queues to be long for those three drops specifically.</p>
<p>We <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/secret-lair-summer-superdrop-2025-officially-announced">covered the other three drops</a> as well. The other three <em>Secret Lair</em> drops will be a bit less trendy, but still are heavy hitters in their own right. For one, <strong>Phil Foglio</strong>'s art is iconic among <em>Magic</em> players, new and old. This drop will probably sell out as well, if not for the artist's name, then because it's the first foil iteration of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Constant Mists" href="#" target="_blank">Constant Mists</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. <strong>Frank Frazetta</strong>'s second drop collection will similarly sell out because Frazetta's name is essentially revered in the fantasy and pulp-art communities across the globe. And while <strong>Imiri Sakabashima</strong>'s name isn't necessarily as well-known in the United States, his drop is weird and wild enough to sell out in due time as well.</p>
<p>The order in which these drops may sell out is up for debate, but it's almost certain to some that the foil <em>Final Fantasy</em> drops will sell out first. Time will tell, though, and we may be in for a surprise!</p>

Secret Lair Summer Superdrop 2025 Launches Today

<p>On Monday, May 12th, at approximately 9 AM Pacific (Noon Eastern), Wizards of the Coast will drop <em>The Ultimate Pencil Superdrop</em> for <em>Secret Lair</em>. We broke down <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/secret-lair-reveals-the-ultimate-pencil-superdrop">the contents of this drop</a> for you back in April, but we felt it was keen to remind you on that day. Since that day is today, let's dive into it!</p>
<p>As a quick reminder, <em>Secret Lair</em> drops now operate on a limited print run system. This means they're no longer printed to demand. Therefore, if you want any particular drop, you should plan to get it soon.</p>
<p>But there's another important thing to keep in mind. As is the case for each superdrop, the cards in these drops come in two or three different styles. Why does this matter? Simply put, it's a matter of price. If you misclick on something, you could be paying between $10 and $60 more. For some reason, the raised foil versions of <em>Everything Is On Fire</em> and <em><i>VroooOOOMMMMMM!</i></em> are both $99.99. To this end, we noted back in April that it's a lot of money, but not enough to solely cover free shipping. Ideally, the bonus card in each of those drops would make up the financial slack. However, that's never a sure bet at this time of the drop's release cycle. You'll have to wait to learn more about the bonus cards in question.</p>

<h2><em>Secret Lair</em> Abridged Financial Breakdown</h2>
<p>Speaking of prices, nonfoil copies of each of these drops are $29.99, while rainbow foil drops are $39.99. Mechanically speaking, only a handful of these drops come close to hitting either of those marks. Most notably, the drop titled <em>Secret Lair x KEXP: You Are Not Alone</em> stands out as a great value acquisition. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Font of Mythos|SLD|2075" href="#" target="_blank">Font of Mythos</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Concordant Crossroads|SLD|2073" href="#" target="_blank">Concordant Crossroads</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are still fairly expensive cards at around $17 apiece. A foil copy of Font of Mythos almost costs the same as a rainbow foil copy of that drop.</p>
<p>Additionally, <em>Featuring: Jay Howell</em> would be worth buying in rainbow foil for the copy of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Treasonous Ogre|SLD|2007" href="#" target="_blank">Treasonous Ogre</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> alone. Currently, that card stands at a whopping $56.50 in its sole foil iteration from <em>Conspiracy</em>.</p>
<p>But that seems to be where the value drops off for these drops, if you'll excuse the wordplay. Are they still worth it? Yes, if you value the art, but not if you'd prefer one specific card or printing. Raised foils notwithstanding, a lot of these cards will likely be affordable in the future as singles.</p>
<h2>Penciling It In</h2>
<p>At the time of writing, you have about two hours to get your plans in for this drop. Generally speaking, queues fill up quickly on the day of a drop, so be prepared to potentially wait a bit.</p>
